Towasanga

Lunar settlement with its own interests in the Capital Tower and photon battery energy.

Towasanga

Towasanga was a settlement on the Moon in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G whose interests in the Capital Tower and its photon battery energy supply brought it into conflict with Earth-based factions. As the only major space-based faction in the Regild Century conflict (aside from the independent Pirate Corps), Towasanga represented a distinct perspective on the struggle for control of the orbital elevator.

Overview

Towasanga’s position on the Moon gave it a unique vantage point in the Regild Century political landscape. Whilst Earth-based factions like the Capital Guard, Capital Army, and Amerian Army competed for control of the Capital Tower from below, Towasanga approached the conflict from above, with its own military forces — the G-IT Corps — operating from the lunar surface.

Like all factions in the Regild Century, Towasanga depended on photon batteries for its energy supply. The Moon settlement’s relationship with the Capital Tower was therefore one of both dependence and competition — Towasanga needed the energy supply but also sought greater control over it.

History

Lunar settlement

Towasanga was established as a settlement on the Moon, maintaining its own government and military forces. The settlement’s distance from Earth gave it a degree of independence from the Capital Tower administration, but its reliance on photon batteries for energy meant it could never be truly independent of the orbital elevator system.

The involvement of Towasanga figures like Gusion Surugan in the central events of Reconguista in G demonstrated the deep connections between the lunar settlement and the conflict surrounding the Capital Tower. Gusion was the father of Aida Surugan, whose connection to the Rayhunton Code and the YG-111 Gundam G-Self made her central to the series’ plot.

The G-IT Corps

Towasanga maintained the G-IT Corps as its special forces organisation. The G-IT Corps operated mobile suits designed for space and specialised operations, including the VGMM-Gb03 Gaeon, VGMM-Gb08 Z’Gocky, and VGMM-Gb07 Z’Gok-E. These forces were deployed to advance Towasanga’s interests in the Earth-based conflict.

Involvement in the Reconguista conflict

Towasanga became directly involved in the conflict when its forces, operating through the G-IT Corps, engaged with Earth-based factions over control of the Capital Tower and its energy infrastructure. The involvement of Gusion Surugan connected Towasanga to the personal drama surrounding Aida Surugan and Klim Nick, adding emotional depth to the factional struggle.

Organisation

Government

Towasanga maintained its own government, separate from the Capital Tower administration. The specifics of Towasanga’s political structure were not extensively detailed in the series, but the settlement clearly operated with significant autonomy from Earth-based authority.

Military

The G-IT Corps served as Towasanga’s military arm. As a special forces organisation, the G-IT Corps was smaller and more specialised than the conventional armies of the Earth-based factions, but its space-based operations and specialised mobile suits made it a significant player in the conflict.

Notable personnel

  • Gusion Surugan – Towasanga figure, father of Aida
  • Takkek – Towasanga officer

Relationships with other factions

Towasanga’s relationships with other factions were shaped by its position as a space-based power:

  • The Capital Guard and Capital Army controlled the Capital Tower on Earth, creating natural tension with Towasanga’s desire for greater influence
  • The Amerian Army represented another Earth-based power with competing interests
  • The G-IT Corps was Towasanga’s own military arm
  • The Pirate Corps operated independently but became entangled in the same conflict
