Capital Guard
Elite defenders of the sacred Capital Tower in the Regild Century.
The Capital Guard (首都衛隊, Shuto Eitai) was the elite military force responsible for defending the Capital Tower — the sacred orbital elevator that supplied photon batteries to the world — in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. As the primary protectors of the most important structure in the Regild Century, the Capital Guard held a position of honour and responsibility within the society built around the Tower.
Overview
The Capital Guard was the first line of defence for the Capital Tower, the orbital elevator that served as the centre of civilisation in the Regild Century. The Tower’s role in distributing photon batteries — the energy source upon which all of society depended — made its protection the highest priority, and the Capital Guard was tasked with this sacred duty.
The Capital Guard was distinct from the Capital Army, which handled broader military operations on the ground. The Guard’s mandate was specifically focused on the Tower itself and its immediate surroundings, making it a more specialised and elite force compared to the general-purpose Capital Army.
History
Founding
The Capital Guard was established alongside the Capital Tower as part of the societal structure built around the orbital elevator. The Guard’s members were drawn from those who demonstrated exceptional dedication and ability, and service in the Capital Guard was considered one of the highest honours available in Regild Century society.
The Guard operated the CAMS-02 Catsith as its primary mass production mobile suit, with cadets like Bellri Zenam and Noredo Nug training at the Capital Guard Academy to become full members of the force.
The Reconguista conflict
When the Pirate Corps operating from the vessel Megafauna attacked the Capital Tower, the Capital Guard was the first force to respond. During this conflict, Bellri Zenam discovered the YG-111 Gundam G-Self, an ancient mobile suit from the pre-Taboo era that only he could pilot.
Bellri’s decision to leave the Capital Guard and join the Megafauna crew created tension within the Guard, as one of their own had effectively defected to the opposing side. This event, combined with the escalating conflict involving multiple factions, tested the Guard’s unity and purpose.
Organisation
Capital Guard Academy
The Capital Guard Academy trained cadets to become full members of the Capital Guard. The Academy provided education in mobile suit operation, combat tactics, and the history and ideology surrounding the Capital Tower. Cadets like Bellri Zenam and Noredo Nug were trained here before being assigned to active duty.
Cheer squad
The Capital Guard maintained a cheer squad, led by Noredo Nug, which served as a morale-boosting organisation within the Guard. The cheer squad reflected the Guard’s culture of camaraderie and team spirit.
Mobile suits
CAMS-02 Catsith
The CAMS-02 Catsith was the Capital Guard’s primary mass production mobile suit. It was used extensively for defensive operations around the Capital Tower and was the standard equipment for Capital Guard pilots. Notable pilots included Raraiya Monday.
Relationships with other factions
The Capital Guard’s relationship with the Capital Army was complex. Both organisations were responsible for protecting the interests of the Capital Tower, but their different mandates sometimes created tension. The Capital Guard focused on the Tower itself, whilst the Capital Army had broader military responsibilities.
As the conflict escalated, the Capital Guard also came into conflict with the Amerian Army, the G-IT Corps, and forces from Towasanga, each of which had their own interests in the Capital Tower and its energy supply.
