Aida Surugan
Amnesiac woman connected to the G-Self through the Rayhunton Code, pilot of the Gundam G-Arcane.
Aida Surugan (アイーダ・スルガン, Aīda Surugan) was a central character in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. An amnesiac woman whose connection to the Rayhunton Code made her the activation key for the YG-111 Gundam G-Self, Aida was the sister of Amerian ace pilot Klim Nick and the daughter of Gusion Surugan of Towasanga. She later piloted the MSAM-033 Gundam G-Arcane.
Biography
Amnesia and the Capital Tower
Aida was discovered with no memory of her past near the Capital Tower, the sacred orbital elevator that supplied photon batteries to the world. Her amnesia was not accidental — it was connected to the Rayhunton Code system, a control mechanism built into the ancient technology that preceded the Universal Century Taboo.
The Rayhunton Code required specific individuals to serve as activation keys for the G-Self and related systems. Aida was one such key, and her presence near the Capital Tower was directly related to this function. Her memory loss made her vulnerable and dependent on others, but it also shielded her from knowledge that could have been dangerous in the wrong hands.
Connection to the G-Self
When the YG-111 Gundam G-Self was discovered, Aida’s role as an activation key became apparent. She was the one who activated the G-Self through the Rayhunton Code, but only Bellri Zenam could actually pilot the machine. This division of roles — Aida as the activator, Bellri as the pilot — was a deliberate design feature of the G-Self, intended to prevent unauthorised use of the ancient mobile suit.
Aida’s connection to Raraiya Monday, another individual linked to the Rayhunton Code system, suggested that there were multiple activation keys and that the system was more complex than initially understood.
Family connections
Aida’s brother, Klim Nick, served as an ace pilot in the Amerian Army, and his search for his sister was a driving force in his character arc. Despite her amnesia, Aida retained an emotional connection to Klim, and their eventual reunion was one of the significant emotional moments in the series.
Her father, Gusion Surugan, was associated with Towasanga, the lunar settlement, further complicating Aida’s position in the conflict. Her family connections spanned multiple factions, making her a figure of interest to the Capital Guard, the Amerian Army, and the G-IT Corps.
Journey with the Megafauna
Aida travelled with Bellri Zenam aboard the Megafauna, the vessel of the Pirate Corps captained by Donyell Tos. Her time with the pirate crew broadened her perspective beyond the narrow worldview she had been raised with at the Capital Tower.
As the conflict escalated, Aida’s role evolved from passive activation key to active participant. She eventually piloted the MSAM-033 Gundam G-Arcane, an ancient mobile suit with capabilities that paralleled those of the G-Self, demonstrating that she was more than just a key to someone else’s weapon.
Personality & traits
Aida was characterised by her gentle nature and inner strength. Despite the trauma of her amnesia and the manipulation she experienced from various factions, Aida maintained her compassion and her willingness to trust others. Her relationship with Bellri Zenam was central to her character development, as she gradually recovered fragments of her identity and made her own choices about her future.
Aida’s journey was one of self-discovery — moving from a state of helplessness to becoming an active agent in the conflict. Her piloting of the G-Arcane symbolised this transformation from key to pilot, from object to subject.
Skills & abilities
Aida’s primary significance was her connection to the Rayhunton Code system, which allowed her to activate the G-Self. Beyond this, she proved capable of piloting mobile suits, eventually operating the Gundam G-Arcane in combat. Her natural aptitude for piloting suggested that she had received training before her amnesia, even if she could not remember it.
Mecha
MSAM-033 Gundam G-Arcane
The G-Arcane was an ancient mobile suit from the same era as the G-Self. Aida piloted this machine during the conflict, demonstrating her capabilities as more than just an activation key. The G-Arcane possessed advanced technology that placed it on par with the G-Self, and Aida’s ability to operate it confirmed her status as a skilled pilot in her own right.
