Pirate Corps

The Pirate Corps was a group of space pirates operating from the vessel Megafauna in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. Led by Captain Donyell Tos, the Pirate Corps operated outside the established factional structure of the Regild Century, pursuing their own agenda whilst becoming inadvertently central to the conflict over the Capital Tower.

Overview

The Pirate Corps was not a traditional military organisation. Operating from their vessel, the Megafauna, the pirates existed outside the authority of the Capital Tower administration and its associated military forces — the Capital Guard and Capital Army. This independence made them unpredictable and difficult to control, which in turn made them a significant factor in the broader conflict.

Despite their designation as “pirates,” the crew of the Megafauna was not simply a criminal organisation. Their motivations and objectives evolved throughout the series, and they became entangled in events far larger than mere piracy. The presence of Bellri Zenam and Aida Surugan aboard the Megafauna transformed the Pirate Corps from a peripheral nuisance into a central player in the Regild Century conflict.

History

The Megafauna

The Megafauna was the Pirate Corps’ vessel — a ship capable of space and atmospheric operations. Under the command of Captain Donyell Tos, the Megafauna served as both the pirates’ base of operations and their home. The ship’s crew included a diverse group of individuals, each with their own skills and reasons for joining the pirate crew.

Notable crew members included:

  • Donyell Tos – Captain of the Megafauna
  • Steer – Helmsman of the Megafauna
  • Chickara Dual – Mechanic aboard the Megafauna
  • Happa – Mechanic
  • Rosham – Crew member
  • Luan – Young mechanic

Conflict with the Capital Guard

The Pirate Corps first came into conflict with the Capital Guard during a raid near the Capital Tower. During this engagement, Bellri Zenam discovered the YG-111 Gundam G-Self, and his decision to board the Megafauna rather than return to the Capital Guard set the series’ events in motion.

Evolution of the Pirate Corps

As the series progressed, the Pirate Corps’ role evolved significantly. What began as a simple conflict between pirates and the Capital Guard grew into a multi-faction struggle involving the Amerian Army, the G-IT Corps, and Towasanga. The Megafauna and its crew became a neutral platform where individuals from different factions could interact, and the ship’s independence from established authority made it a unique player in the conflict.

Organisation

The Pirate Corps was organised around the Megafauna and its crew. Captain Donyell Tos provided leadership, but the organisation was less hierarchical than traditional military forces. The diverse skills of the crew — including pilots, mechanics, and support personnel — allowed the Megafauna to operate independently for extended periods.

Relationships with other factions

The Pirate Corps’ independence put them at odds with every established faction:

However, the Pirate Corps’ independence also gave them flexibility that the established factions lacked. Free from institutional constraints, the Megafauna crew could adapt to changing circumstances and pursue opportunities that more rigid organisations could not.
