Bellri Zenam
Capital Guard cadet who became the pilot of the YG-111 Gundam G-Self.
Bellri Zenam (ベルリ・ゼナム, Beruri Zenamu) was a Capital Guard cadet stationed at the Capital Tower and the primary pilot of the YG-111 Gundam G-Self, an ancient mobile suit from the era before the Universal Century Taboo. His discovery of the G-Self during a skirmish with the Pirate Corps set in motion the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G.
Biography
Early life
Bellri Zenam grew up in the shadow of the Capital Tower, the sacred orbital elevator that supplies photon batteries — the energy source upon which all of civilisation in the Regild Century depends. He enrolled in the Capital Guard Academy with the goal of protecting the Tower, a role considered one of the highest honours in society. His upbringing instilled in him a deep reverence for the Tower and its purpose.
Discovery of the G-Self
During a routine patrol, Bellri encountered the Pirate Corps aboard the vessel Megafauna, captained by Donyell Tos. In the ensuing conflict, Bellri discovered the YG-111 Gundam G-Self — a mobile suit from a forgotten era that had been stored near the Capital Tower. When Aida Surugan, an amnesiac woman captured by the pirates, activated the G-Self’s Rayhunton Code, only Bellri was able to pilot the machine.
This unique compatibility made Bellri the only person capable of operating the G-Self, a fact that drew the attention of every faction involved in the conflict. His ability to pilot the ancient mobile suit suggested a connection between him and the lost technology of the era before the taboo.
Journey with the Megafauna
Initially aligned with the Capital Guard, Bellri’s perspective broadened as he spent time aboard the Megafauna and interacted with the pirate crew. He developed close bonds with his friend Noredo Nug, who remained with the Capital Guard, and with Aida Surugan, whose mysterious origins became central to the unfolding conflict.
Bellri found himself caught between his duty to protect the Capital Tower and the growing realisation that the official narrative about the Tower, photon batteries, and history was incomplete. His journey involved navigating the competing interests of the Capital Army, the Amerian Army, and the forces from Towasanga on the Moon.
Personality & traits
Bellri Zenam was characterised by his earnest nature and strong sense of duty. As a Capital Guard cadet, he was raised to revere the Capital Tower and accept its teachings without question. However, his experiences aboard the Megafauna and his encounters with multiple factions forced him to confront the complexities of the world he had been taught to protect.
His ability to remain compassionate even in conflict distinguished him from many of the other pilots in the series. Bellri sought to understand all sides of the conflict rather than simply choosing a faction and fighting blindly.
Skills & abilities
Bellri’s most notable ability was his unique compatibility with the YG-111 Gundam G-Self. He was the only person capable of piloting the mobile suit, which required a specific genetic or training marker to operate — a safeguard built into the machine by its original creators.
As a Capital Guard cadet, Bellri received formal training in mobile suit operation and combat tactics. His natural aptitude, combined with his exposure to the G-Self’s advanced systems, allowed him to become a skilled pilot despite his relatively limited combat experience at the start of the series.
Mecha
YG-111 Gundam G-Self
The G-Self was the central mobile suit of the series, an ancient machine that only Bellri could pilot. The G-Self was equipped with multiple interchangeable packs that modified its capabilities:
- Space Pack — Optimised for space combat with enhanced propulsion
- Atmospheric Pack — Designed for atmospheric flight and ground operations
- Reflector Pack — Equipped with defensive reflector technology
- Tricky Pack — Electronic warfare and decoy configuration
- Perfect Pack — The ultimate configuration combining all capabilities
The G-Self was powered by photon batteries and activated through the Rayhunton Code, a system that linked Aida Surugan to the machine.
