Megafauna
Pirate Corps mothership commanded by Captain Donyell Tos, central to the Reconguista conflict.
The Megafauna (メガファウナ) was the mothership of the Pirate Corps during the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. Commanded by Captain Donyell Tos, the Megafauna served as both a mobile base of operations and a significant military platform in the complex factional politics of the Regild Century.
History
Origins
The Megafauna was a large-capacity vessel operated by the Pirate Corps, an irregular military force that operated independently of the established power structures of the Regild Century. Despite its “pirate” designation, the Pirate Corps was not a conventional criminal organisation but rather an independent force with its own agenda and political objectives. The Megafauna was central to these operations, providing the mobility and firepower needed to operate across multiple domains — Earth’s surface, atmosphere, and space.
The vessel’s name, “Megafauna,” referenced the large creatures of ancient Earth, suggesting a connection to the deep history that was suppressed by the Universal Century Taboo. This naming convention was consistent with the Pirate Corps’ broader interest in uncovering the truth about the era before the current civilisation.
Role in the Reconguista conflict
The Megafauna became a central player in the Reconguista conflict when it encountered Bellri Zenam and the YG-111 Gundam G-Self near the Capital Tower. Captain Donyell Tos’s decision to bring Bellri and Aida Surugan aboard the vessel set in motion a chain of events that saw the Megafauna travel between Earth and the Moon, interacting with virtually every major faction in the series.
Throughout the conflict, the Megafauna served as a neutral platform — capable of engaging with the Capital Guard, the Capital Army, the Amerian Army, and the forces of Towasanga without becoming subordinate to any of them. This independence was both the vessel’s greatest strength and its greatest vulnerability.
Crew
The Megafauna carried a diverse crew of approximately 50 personnel, including pilots, mechanics, and support staff. Key crew members included Steer, the ship’s helmsman, and Chickara Dual, the chief mechanic. The crew’s loyalty to Captain Donyell Tos and their shared commitment to the Pirate Corps’ independence created a cohesive and effective team.
Design & capabilities
The Megafauna was a large vessel with multi-environment capabilities, allowing it to operate in Earth’s atmosphere, in space, and during transit between the two. Its armament included beam cannons, missile launchers, and machine gun turrets, providing significant defensive and offensive capability. The vessel carried a complement of mobile suits, including the YG-111 Gundam G-Self and various Amerian Army and Capital Army machines.
