Gundam Reconguista in G II: Bellri's Fierce Charge
Second film compilation of Gundam Reconguista in G, covering Bellri's deepening involvement with the Megafauna crew.
Gundam Reconguista in G II: Bellri’s Fierce Charge (Gのレコンギスタ II ベルリ 撃進, G no Rekonigisuta II: Beruri Gekishin) was the second of five film compilations of Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G, directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Sunrise. Released in Japanese theatres on 7 February 2020, the film continued the story of Bellri Zenam and the crew of the Megafauna as they became increasingly entangled in the conflicts of the Regild Century.
Production
As part of Tomino’s film compilation project, Bellri’s Fierce Charge revisited the middle arc of the television series with new animation, revised pacing, and improved production values. The film’s title — “Bellri’s Fierce Charge” — reflected the protagonist’s growing determination and combat involvement as he navigated the complex political landscape surrounding the Capital Tower.
New animated sequences were added to enhance key battles and character moments, particularly the confrontations between Bellri’s YG-111 Gundam G-Self and Luin Lee’s VGMM-Gb10 Gundam G-Lucifer. These additions served to heighten the dramatic impact of the mobile suit battles and clarify the evolving relationships between the series’ characters.
Story
The film covered Bellri Zenam’s deepening involvement with the Pirate Corps aboard the Megafauna, captained by Donyell Tos. As Bellri spent more time with the pirate crew, his perspective on the world expanded beyond the teachings of the Capital Guard. He encountered forces from the Amerian Army, the Capital Army, and Towasanga, each with their own agenda regarding the secrets of the Capital Tower.
The film also explored the relationship between Bellri and Aida Surugan, whose knowledge of the Rayhunton Code was essential to the operation of the G-Self. The complexity of their bond — shaped by Aida’s connection to Towasanga and Bellri’s growing independence from the Capital Tower establishment — was a central theme of the film’s narrative.
