Gundam Reconguista in G IV: Shouting Love

Gundam Reconguista in G IV: Shouting Love (Gのレコンギスタ IV 激闘に叫ぶ愛, G no Rekonigisuta IV: Gekitō ni Sakebu Ai) was the fourth of five film compilations of Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G, directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino and produced by Sunrise. Released in Japanese theatres on 22 July 2022, the film covered the escalating conflict of the series’ late arc, where the competing agendas of all factions reached a critical point.

Production

Shouting Love continued Tomino’s film compilation project with new animation and revised pacing for the series’ climactic sequences. The film’s title — “Shouting Love” — referenced the emotional intensity of the conflicts depicted, where personal relationships and political loyalties collided in the crucible of war. Tomino’s direction emphasised the human drama alongside the mobile suit action, a hallmark of his approach to the Gundam franchise.

The film included newly animated battle sequences and character moments that enhanced the emotional impact of the story. The improved production values of the film format allowed for more detailed mecha animation and more expressive character acting than had been achievable in the original television broadcast.

Story

The fourth film covered the escalating conflicts between all major factions in the Reconguista in G narrative. The Megafauna and its crew, including Bellri Zenam and Aida Surugan, found themselves at the centre of a struggle that involved the Capital Army, the Amerian Army, and Towasanga.

The film depicted the intensifying rivalry between Bellri’s YG-111 Gundam G-Self and Luin Lee’s VGMM-Gb10 Gundam G-Lucifer, as well as the political manoeuvring of Gusion Surugan and the leadership of Towasanga. The emotional core of the film was the relationship between Bellri and Aida, whose bond was tested by the competing demands of loyalty, duty, and love.
