The CAMS-02 Catsith (CAMS-02 キャットシー, Kyamu Esu Tsū Kyattoshī) was a mass production mobile suit used by the Capital Guard for defensive operations around the Capital Tower in Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. Named after the mythical cat-sith of Celtic folklore, the Catsith served as the primary mobile suit of the Capital Guard during the conflict over the Capital Tower and its photon battery energy supply.

History

Capital Guard service

The Catsith was developed specifically for the Capital Guard, the elite force tasked with protecting the Capital Tower. As a mass production unit, the Catsith was produced in significant numbers to equip the Capital Guard’s mobile suit corps, providing them with a capable platform for defensive operations around the sacred orbital elevator.

The Catsith saw extensive use during the conflict that forms the backdrop of Reconguista in G. Capital Guard pilots operating Catsith units were among the first to engage with the Pirate Corps operating from the vessel Megafauna, and they also clashed with forces from the Capital Army, Amerian Army, and Towasanga as the conflict escalated.

Notable pilots

Raraiya Monday was among the pilots who operated the Catsith during her service with the Capital Guard. Despite her amnesia, Raraiya demonstrated competence in operating the Catsith, suggesting that she had received formal training before her memory loss.

Design

The Catsith was designed as a general-purpose defensive mobile suit, optimised for operations in the vicinity of the Capital Tower. Its design prioritised reliability and ease of maintenance over cutting-edge performance, making it suitable for mass production and deployment by the Capital Guard’s mobile suit corps.

Specifications

The Catsith was powered by photon batteries, the standard energy source for mobile suits in the Regild Century. Whilst not as powerful as the ancient mobile suits like the YG-111 Gundam G-Self or the MSAM-033 Gundam G-Arcane, the Catsith’s performance was adequate for its defensive role.

Armaments

The Catsith was equipped with standard mobile suit armaments suitable for defensive operations. These included conventional beam weapons and physical weapons appropriate for engaging enemy mobile suits and protecting the Capital Tower from attack.

Beam weapons

The Catsith’s primary weapons included beam rifles powered by photon batteries, providing effective ranged combat capability. Beam weapons were the standard armament for mobile suits in the Regild Century, though the Catsith’s beam weapons were less powerful than those of the ancient prototype machines.

Melee weapons

For close combat, the Catsith was equipped with beam sabers, standard melee weapons for mobile suit engagement. These provided the Catsith with the ability to engage in close-quarters combat when necessary.

Performance

The Catsith’s performance was representative of contemporary mass production mobile suits in the Regild Century. It was capable and reliable but lacked the advanced capabilities of the ancient prototype machines from the pre-Taboo era. In engagements with machines like the G-Self or the G-Arcane, the Catsith was significantly outmatched.

However, against other contemporary mobile suits, the Catsith held its own. Its mass production design and standardised systems made it a practical choice for equipping the Capital Guard’s large mobile suit corps.

Variants

The Catsith was primarily produced in a standard configuration, though variations were developed for specific operational requirements.
