The OVV-A Baqto (OVV-A バクト, OVV-A Bakuto) was a heavy mobile suit operated by Vagan during the war against the Earth Federation in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. As a heavy combat unit, the Baqto was designed to engage Federation mobile suits with overwhelming firepower and armour.
History
Development
The Baqto was developed by Vagan as part of its heavy mobile suit programme. Vagan’s mobile suit design philosophy favoured powerful, aggressive units that could overwhelm the Earth Federation’s forces through superior firepower and combat capability. The Baqto embodied this approach, combining heavy armour with potent weapons systems.
Vagan’s mobile suit development benefited from the technological insights provided by Desil Galette, whose X-Rounder abilities and unique perspective on mobile suit design contributed to Vagan’s technological advancement.
Combat deployment
The Baqto saw extensive service during the second and third generations of the war. Baqto units were deployed against Earth Federation forces in a variety of combat scenarios, from ground assaults to space engagements.
The Baqto’s heavy armour and powerful weapons made it a formidable opponent for Federation mass production mobile suits such as the RGE-G1100 Adele. However, the Baqto was still outmatched by the prototype Gundam mobile suits produced by the AGE System, including the AGE-1, AGE-2, and AGE-3.
Vagan tactics
The Baqto was typically deployed in Vagan’s offensive operations, where its heavy combat capabilities could be used to break through Federation defences. Vagan commanders used Baqto units as spearheads in assaults, relying on their firepower and armour to create openings for lighter, more mobile units to exploit.
Design
Specifications
The Baqto stood approximately 18.5 metres tall and was powered by a reactor of unknown type. Its armour was significantly heavier than that of standard Vagan mobile suits, providing enhanced protection against Federation beam weapons.
Armaments
The Baqto was equipped with a heavy beam rifle as its primary weapon, providing devastating firepower at medium to long range. It also carried beam sabers for close combat and a defensive shield for protection.
