Zeheart Galette

Zeheart Galette (ゼハート・ガレット, Zehāto Garetto) was a Vagan ace pilot and one of the most compelling characters in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. A gifted X-Rounder pilot, Zeheart was Asemu Asuno’s former classmate at the military academy and became his most persistent rival on the battlefield.

Zeheart’s story is defined by the tension between his loyalty to Vagan and his personal relationships with his former friends. His rivalry with Asemu — built on mutual respect rather than hatred — was one of the most nuanced character dynamics in the Gundam franchise.

Biography

Academy days

Zeheart attended the Earth Federation military academy alongside Asemu Asuno. During this time, the two developed a genuine friendship and mutual respect as fellow pilots and classmates. Zeheart was talented, disciplined, and driven — qualities that marked him as a promising officer.

Unknown to his classmates, Zeheart was a Vagan operative who had infiltrated the academy to gather intelligence. This secret shaped everything about his relationships at the academy — his friendship with Asemu was genuine, but it existed alongside his duty to Vagan.

Vagan ace pilot

When war broke out, Zeheart revealed his true allegiance and joined Vagan’s military forces. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming one of Vagan’s most skilled pilots and a trusted commander. His X-Rounder abilities made him a formidable opponent on the battlefield.

Zeheart piloted several mobile suits throughout the war. His initial unit was the XVV-XC Zedas, a mobile armour that he used to great effect. Later, he upgraded to the XVM-ZGC Zeydra and eventually the XVT-ZGC Ghirarga, each reflecting his growing status within Vagan’s hierarchy.

Rivalry with Asemu

Zeheart’s rivalry with Asemu was the emotional core of Gundam AGE’s second generation. Unlike typical Gundam rivalries driven by hatred, Zeheart and Asemu’s conflict was characterised by mutual respect and a shared understanding of each other’s abilities.

Both pilots acknowledged each other’s skill and honour. Even as they fought on opposite sides, neither sought the other’s destruction — they were adversaries who respected each other as worthy opponents. This dynamic made their encounters some of the most emotionally resonant in the series.

Relationship with Desil

Zeheart’s younger brother Desil Galette was also involved with Vagan, though his path diverged significantly from Zeheart’s. Desil’s darker ambitions and willingness to use extreme methods created tension between the brothers. Zeheart’s more honourable approach to war contrasted sharply with Desil’s ruthlessness.

Later role

As the war progressed, Zeheart became increasingly involved in Vagan’s high command. He worked closely with FeZarl Ezelcant, though his personal code of honour sometimes put him at odds with Ezelcant’s more extreme strategies. Zeheart’s loyalty to Vagan was absolute, but his methods were guided by a sense of honour that distinguished him from other Vagan commanders.

Zeheart was disciplined, honourable, and deeply loyal. He approached warfare with a sense of duty and personal code that set him apart from other Vagan commanders. His respect for his enemies — particularly Asemu — reflected his belief that honour existed even on the battlefield.

Unlike many Gundam antagonists, Zeheart was not driven by hatred or a desire for revenge. He fought for Vagan because he believed in its cause and felt a sense of duty to the colonists who had been neglected by the Earth Federation.

Zeheart was an exceptionally skilled X-Rounder pilot, capable of sensing and responding to enemy movements with enhanced awareness. His combat style was precise and calculated, reflecting his disciplined personality.

He was also a capable military commander, leading Vagan forces with tactical skill and strategic vision. His ability to inspire loyalty in his subordinates made him one of Vagan’s most effective leaders.

XVV-XC Zedas

Zeheart’s initial mobile suit, the Zedas was a transformable mobile armour that combined the versatility of a mobile suit with the speed of an aircraft. It suited Zeheart’s tactical approach to combat.

XVM-ZGC Zeydra

An upgraded unit, the Zeydra offered improved performance and firepower. Zeheart used this mobile suit during the intensifying conflict of the second generation.

XVT-ZGC Ghirarga

Zeheart’s final mobile suit, the Ghirarga was a powerful unit designed for elite pilots. It represented the pinnacle of Vagan mobile suit technology available to him.
