AGE-2 Gundam AGE-2 Normal

The AGE-2 Gundam AGE-2 Normal (ガンダムAGE-2 ノーマル, Gandamu Eiji Tsū Nōmaru) was the second generation Gundam in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, piloted by Asemu Asuno. Built using combat data accumulated from the AGE-1 Gundam, the AGE-2 represented a significant evolution in mobile suit design.

The AGE-2 featured a sleeker, more aerodynamic design than its predecessor, with improved mobility, armour, and firepower. It served as the foundation for further evolutionary branches, including the AGE-2DB Double Bullet and the AGE-2DH Dark Hound.

History

Development

The AGE-2 was developed by Flit Asuno using the AGE System, which had accumulated years of combat data from the AGE-1’s deployment against Vagan forces. The AGE System analysed this data and proposed design improvements that resulted in the second generation Gundam.

The AGE-2 was designed with Asemu Asuno in mind, incorporating feedback from both Flit’s experience as the AGE-1 pilot and Asemu’s own piloting style. The result was a mobile suit that combined the AGE System’s evolutionary capabilities with a design optimised for Asemu’s combat preferences.

Combat debut

The AGE-2 made its debut during the resumption of hostilities between the Earth Federation and Vagan. Asemu piloted the AGE-2 in numerous battles, facing off against Vagan aces including his former friend Zeheart Galette.

The AGE-2’s improved performance allowed Asemu to hold his own against experienced Vagan pilots, though the conflict with Zeheart was always evenly matched — a testament to both pilots’ skill rather than either mobile suit’s superiority.

Asemu’s disappearance

During a particularly intense battle, Asemu’s AGE-2 was destroyed and he was presumed dead. In reality, Asemu survived and was rescued by the space pirate group Bisidian, adopting the identity of “Captain Ash” and later piloting the AGE-2DH Dark Hound.

Design

Specifications

The AGE-2 stood approximately 19.0 metres tall, slightly taller than the AGE-1. It was powered by an upgraded plasma reactor capable of outputting 4500 kW — a significant increase over the AGE-1’s 3200 kW. The additional power enabled improved weapon systems and enhanced mobility.

The AGE-2’s armour was constructed from improved E-Carbon composite, offering better protection than the AGE-1 whilst maintaining comparable weight. The mobile suit’s sleeker design also reduced drag during atmospheric flight.

Armaments

DODS Rifle

The AGE-2 utilised an improved DODS Rifle with higher output and better energy efficiency than the AGE-1’s version. The weapon remained the mobile suit’s primary ranged armament.

Beam Sabers

Two beam sabers were mounted in the backpack for close combat, consistent with previous Gundam designs.

Shield

A redesigned shield provided improved defensive capability, with enhanced energy absorption against beam weapons.
