Earth Federation (Advanced Generation)

The Earth Federation (地球連邦, Chikyū Renpō) in the Advanced Generation era was humanity’s governing body during the century-long war against Vagan. The Federation controlled Earth and its orbiting space colonies, maintaining military forces that were repeatedly challenged by Vagan’s assaults throughout the conflict depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE.

Unlike the Earth Federation in other Gundam timelines, the Advanced Generation Federation was characterised by its struggle to adapt to an enemy that attacked from Mars and the outer colonies — a threat that conventional military structures were poorly equipped to handle.

Overview

The Earth Federation was the established government of humanity in the Advanced Generation era, responsible for administering Earth and its space colonies. The Federation maintained military forces for defence and law enforcement, though these forces were initially unprepared for the scale and sophistication of Vagan’s attacks.

The Federation’s response to the Vagan threat evolved significantly over the course of the century-long conflict. Initially caught off-guard by Vagan’s first attacks, the Federation gradually developed more capable military forces, culminating in the deployment of the AGE System and its line of Gundam mobile suits.

Military forces

Earth Federation Forces

The Federation’s military was organised into conventional armed forces responsible for defending Earth and its colonies. These forces included standard mobile suits, warships, and ground-based defence installations. However, in the early stages of the war, Federation forces were repeatedly outmatched by Vagan’s more advanced mobile suits.

The Diva

The assault ship Diva was one of the Federation’s most important military assets during the war. Commanded by Grodek Ainoa, the Diva served as a mobile command centre and carrier for the AGE-series Gundams. The ship participated in numerous critical battles and played a central role in the Federation’s eventual victory.

Mobile suits

The Federation’s mobile suit forces evolved throughout the war:

• Genoace (RGE-B790) — The Federation’s standard mass production mobile suit in the early stages of the war. It was reliable but outclassed by Vagan’s more advanced units.
• AGE-1 Gundam (AGE-1) — The first mobile suit built using the AGE System, piloted by Flit Asuno.
• AGE-2 Gundam (AGE-2) — The second generation mobile suit, piloted by Asemu Asuno.
• AGE-3 Gundam (AGE-3) — The third generation mobile suit, piloted by Kio Asuno.
• AGE-FX (AGE-FX) — The ultimate evolution of the AGE System, also piloted by Kio Asuno.

The AGE System

The AGE System was the Federation’s greatest technological advantage in the war against Vagan. Developed by Flit Asuno from data contained in the AGE Device, the AGE System allowed mobile suits to evolve based on combat data, producing increasingly capable designs over time.

The AGE System was responsible for the development of all four Gundam generations in the series: the AGE-1, AGE-2, AGE-3, and AGE-FX. Each generation built upon the accumulated knowledge of its predecessors, creating an evolutionary chain of mobile suits that grew more powerful with each iteration.

History

First generation

In A.G. 101, Vagan attacked the space colony Ovan, marking the beginning of the war. The Federation’s forces were caught off-guard and suffered significant losses. Flit Asuno, a survivor of the attack, dedicated himself to developing the AGE System as a means of defending humanity.

Years later, when Vagan attacked again, Flit deployed the AGE-1 Gundam and joined the crew of the Diva. The mobile suit’s performance demonstrated the potential of the AGE System and gave the Federation a fighting chance against Vagan’s superior mobile suits.

Second generation

During a period of uneasy ceasefire, the Federation rebuilt its forces whilst Asemu Asuno piloted the AGE-2 Gundam. However, the ceasefire eventually broke down, and the Federation found itself once again at war with Vagan.

Third generation

By the third generation, the Federation had developed significantly more capable military forces. The deployment of the AGE-3 and AGE-FX Gundams, piloted by Kio Asuno, gave the Federation the technological edge needed to finally turn the tide of the war.
