NERV

NERV is the paramilitary organisation at the centre of the Evangelion franchise. Funded and nominally overseen by the United Nations, NERV is responsible for developing and deploying the Evangelion units to defend Tokyo-3—and ultimately humanity—against the Angels. Its headquarters are located beneath the city, in the vast underground complex known as the GeoFront.

NERV is commanded by Gendo Ikari, with Misato Katsuragi overseeing operations. Gendo reports to the secret council SEELE but is not a member of the council — he is their instrument, bound to serve their agenda, though he pursues his own goal of reuniting with his wife Yui Ikari behind their backs. NERV employs the three child pilots Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, and Asuka Langley Soryu.
