Gjallarhorn

Gjallarhorn (ギャラルホルン, Gyaruhorun) is the dominant military and peacekeeping organisation in the Post Disaster timeline and the primary antagonist force in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Formed after the Calamity War under the Vingolf Proclamation in PD 001, Gjallarhorn oversees the four economic blocs of Earth and maintains order across the Earth Sphere, including Mars. It opposes Tekkadan and the Martian independence movement and is portrayed as corrupt and self-serving despite its official role.

History

Founding

Gjallarhorn was established at the end of the Calamity War to prevent a return to the devastation caused by mobile armors and conflict. The organisation was built around the “Seven Stars”—seven families that contributed to ending the war—and was given authority to maintain peace and regulate military power. Over the centuries it became entrenched, with its leadership more interested in preserving their own power and the status quo than in genuine justice or the welfare of colonies.

Role in PD 323

By PD 323, Gjallarhorn enforces the economic and political order that keeps Mars and other colonies subordinate to Earth’s blocs. When Tekkadan escorts Kudelia Aina Bernstein and challenges that order, Gjallarhorn responds with force. Internal factions—including reformers such as McGillis Fareed and traditionalists such as Rustal Elion—compete for control, leading to civil conflict and the eventual use of extreme measures such as Dainsleif railguns against Tekkadan.

Organisation

Gjallarhorn is headed by the Seven Stars families and operates through a military hierarchy with various fleets and units. Key figures include McGillis Fareed, Gaelio Bauduin, Carta Issue, and Rustal Elion. The organisation fields mass-production mobile suits such as the EB-06 Graze and maintains control over Gundam Frames and other Calamity War-era technology.

Technology and doctrine

Gjallarhorn uses Ahab Reactor-powered mobile suits and nanolaminate armour, which makes beam weapons largely ineffective and emphasises physical and kinetic weapons. The organisation restricts the use of Alaya-Vijnana System and controls access to Gundam Frames to maintain its military advantage.
