Tekkadan

Tekkadan (鉄華団, Tekkadan, “Iron Flower Brigade”) is a mercenary company in the Post Disaster timeline and the protagonist organisation of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Formed when the human debris (child labourers) of Chryse Guard Security (CGS) rebelled and took over the company, Tekkadan is led by Orga Itsuka and relies on ace pilot Mikazuki Augus in the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos. They ally with Kudelia Aina Bernstein to advance Martian independence and become a major player in conflicts with Gjallarhorn and the economic blocs.

History

Origins

The members of Tekkadan were formerly “human debris”—child labourers and soldiers used by CGS on Mars. When CGS was contracted to attack a group that included Kudelia, the adults ordered the children to act as decoys. Orga Itsuka and the others refused, seized the base, and took over CGS, renaming it Tekkadan. They accepted Kudelia’s contract to escort her to Earth, which drew them into direct conflict with Gjallarhorn and set them on a path of expansion and eventual confrontation.

Rise and fall

Tekkadan grew from a small band of survivors into a recognised military contractor with ships, mobile suits, and allies such as the Turbines. Orga’s ambition and the group’s successes led to greater power and greater enemies. The conflict with Gjallarhorn, internal politics, and the use of weapons such as the Dainsleif ultimately led to Tekkadan’s defeat and dissolution, with many members killed in the final battles.

Organisation

Orga Itsuka serves as the leader, making strategic and organisational decisions. Key combat members include Mikazuki Augus (Barbatos pilot), Akihiro Altland, and others. Eugene Sevenstark and Biscuit Griffon (until his death) handle operations and planning. The group operates mobile suits including the Gundam Barbatos, Graze units, and later Shiden and other machines.

Themes

Tekkadan embodies the series’ themes of child soldiers seeking dignity and a place to belong, loyalty among outcasts, and the cost of using violence to secure power and independence. Their name (“Iron Flower Brigade”) suggests both toughness and the desire to bloom in a hostile world.
