Nanolaminate armor

Nanolaminate armour (ナノラミネートアーマー, Nanoraminate Āmā) is the standard armour material for mobile suits in the Post Disaster timeline. It is highly resistant to beam weapons, which led to beam technology being largely abandoned in favour of physical and kinetic weapons in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.

Overview

Nanolaminate armour disperses or neutralises beam attacks effectively, so combat in the Post Disaster era relies on ballistic weapons, blades, maces, and kinetic systems such as the Dainsleif railgun. The trade-off is vulnerability to physical impact and penetration, encouraging close-quarters combat and melee loadouts for Gundam Frames like the Gundam Barbatos.

Use

All major Post Disaster mobile suits use nanolaminate armour, including the EB-06 Graze, STH-16 Shiden, and every Gundam Frame.
