Dainsleif
Kinetic railgun weapon banned after the Calamity War; used by Gjallarhorn against Tekkadan.
The Dainsleif (ダインスレイヴ, Dainsureivu) is a powerful kinetic railgun weapon in the Post Disaster timeline. It was used during the Calamity War and caused severe damage to the Moon; after the war it was banned under the Vingolf Proclamation. In Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Gjallarhorn under Rustal Elion deploys Dainsleif against Tekkadan, bypassing nanolaminate armour and causing devastating casualties.
Overview
The Dainsleif fires heavy kinetic projectiles at extreme velocity, making it effective against nanolaminate armour, which is resistant to beam weapons. Its use during the Calamity War contributed to the Moon’s damaged state. The weapon is mounted on mobile suits or dedicated platforms; Rustal’s forces use it to break Tekkadan’s formations and kill key members, including in the final battles.
Ban and deployment
Despite the ban, Gjallarhorn retains stockpiles. Rustal authorises Dainsleif use for tactical and political reasons, and the resulting destruction helps end both McGillis Fareed’s coup and Tekkadan’s resistance. The weapon’s name is derived from the sword of Norse myth that could not be sheathed without drawing blood.
