The End of Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン劇場版 THE END OF EVANGELION) is a 1997 Japanese anime film that serves as an alternate ending to the Neon Genesis Evangelion television series. The film continues from the preview segment of Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and depicts SEELE’s assault on NERV, the activation of the Human Instrumentality Project, and the fates of Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, Asuka Langley Soryu, and the other characters. It is widely regarded as the canonical conclusion to the original Evangelion timeline and preceded the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy by a decade.
