Jamitov Hymen
Admiral and founder of the Titans who manipulated the Earth Federation for his own ambitions.
Jamitov Hymen was an Admiral in the Earth Federation Forces who founded and led the Titans, an elite counter-insurgent organisation. Cruel, devious, and utterly amoral, Jamitov used the Titans as his private army to further his own ambitions for dominance over the Earth Sphere. He was the mastermind behind many of the political machinations during the Gryps Conflict, manipulating events from his position at the pinnacle of the Federation’s military command structure.
Biography
Early career
Jamitov’s early life remained largely shrouded in mystery, but his meteoric rise through the ranks of the Earth Federation Forces was well documented. He proved himself to be a cunning and strategic officer who earned both the respect and fear of his peers through his ruthless methods and political acumen.
Operation Stardust
During Operation Stardust in UC 0083, Jamitov served as an aide to Admiral Gene Coliny with the rank of Commodore. Rather than working to stop the Delaz Fleet’s colony drop, Jamitov manipulated the crisis to his own benefit. By hindering Earth Federation efforts to prevent the disaster, he created the perfect pretext for both the ouster of Vice Admiral John Cowen and the formation of what would become known as the Titans.
Foundation of the Titans
In the aftermath of Operation Stardust, Jamitov successfully argued for the creation of a dedicated organisation to prevent future Zeon-type rebellions. The Titans were ostensibly formed to eliminate Zeon remnants and ensure no other anti-Federation insurgencies could succeed. However, this was merely a smokescreen for Jamitov’s true ambition to dominate the Earth Sphere under his own brand of Earth-supremacist ideology.
As the Titans gained power through their early successes, they became increasingly brutal and expanded their goals to include anyone who dared oppose Earth Federation policy. Jamitov used this elite military force as his private army, acting outside the normal Federation jurisdiction to crush opposition and consolidate his control.
Gryps Conflict
By UC 0087, Jamitov had attained the rank of Admiral and commanded the Titans from the apex of Federation military power. During the Gryps Conflict, his machinations reached new heights as he orchestrated events to further his interests, often at the expense of others.
After the Second Battle of Jaburo, Jamitov met with Bask Om at Gryps to discuss the AEUG’s attack and the fortification of the colony. To help maintain control, he summoned Paptimus Scirocco, a powerful Newtype known as “the man from Jupiter”. Although Scirocco pledged his loyalty by signing a contract with his own blood, Jamitov and Bask retained misgivings about bringing him into their organisation.
At the first meeting in Dakar, Jamitov deviously arranged the assassination of AEUG leader Blex Forer, allowing him to convince the Federation Council to hand over significant control of the Federation Forces to the Titans.
Kilimanjaro and experimentation
Jamitov was present at the Titans headquarters in Kilimanjaro when it came under attack by the AEUG and Karaba. During this time, he personally observed experiments to determine if Cyber-Newtype Four Murasame could use the Psycho Gundam to its full potential. When the psycho waves proved too much for her, he found the results very disappointing, showing his callous disregard for human suffering in pursuit of military advantage.
When Kamille Bidan and Char Aznable infiltrated the base, they encountered Jamitov. Char attempted to kill him to avenge Commodore Blex, but Jamitov escaped, dismissively telling Char that he had overestimated him. Although the AEUG and Karaba eventually overwhelmed the Titans and destroyed their base, Jamitov successfully launched back into space.
Confrontations with Axis
Later at the Gate of Zedan, Jamitov prepared to meet with Haman Karn, the leader of Axis Zeon. He discussed this meeting with Jerid Messa and entrusted him with a device to use if Haman attempted any treachery.
When they met, Haman revealed that the Axis asteroid was headed on a collision course with the Gate of Zedan and boldly admitted that she had come to kill him. Jerid attempted to shoot her with Jamitov’s device, but Haman dodged and released cyanide gas from her earring. Jerid managed to seal himself and Jamitov in a secret compartment to avoid the poison. The Axis asteroid did indeed collide with the Gate of Zedan, but Jamitov and Bask evacuated with most of their forces intact, though significantly damaged.
Death
After the destruction of the Gate of Zedan, Jamitov attended a final conference with Haman and Scirocco. He reprimanded Scirocco for failing to appear at the Gate of Zedan during its destruction, though he refrained from taking further action despite still not trusting the Newtype.
During the conference, Scirocco openly agreed with Haman’s statement that people “whose souls are weighed down by Earth’s gravity” were hardly fit to lead in outer space. This irked Jamitov despite Scirocco’s supposed loyalty. When Scirocco pulled a gun on Haman, Char shot him first, grazing his arm. Sarah Zabiarov then blasted through the conference room with her Bolinoak Sammahn, sending everything into chaos.
When the smoke cleared, only Jamitov and Scirocco remained in the ruins of the conference room. Scirocco took this opportunity to kill Jamitov, later blaming Haman for the assassination. With Jamitov’s death, Scirocco seized control of the Titans, though the organisation was already fracturing from internal power struggles.
Personality and traits
Jamitov was a master manipulator who combined political cunning with military strategic thinking. He was utterly ruthless in pursuing his goals, showing no hesitation in sacrificing others—including his own subordinates—for political advantage. His Earth-supremacist ideology drove him to view Spacenoids as inferior and expendable, leading to increasingly brutal policies under Titans rule.
Despite his amoral nature, Jamitov possessed genuine strategic intelligence and an understanding of how to exploit crises for political gain. He was also highly suspicious and paranoid, correctly identifying threats to his power even from supposed allies like Scirocco.
Skills and abilities
Jamitov demonstrated exceptional political and military strategic abilities throughout his career. His talent for manipulation allowed him to turn disasters like Operation Stardust into opportunities for personal advancement. He possessed a keen understanding of Federation politics and knew how to leverage military success into political power.
His ability to create and maintain the Titans as an effective fighting force whilst using them for his own purposes showed considerable organisational and leadership skills, even as his methods became increasingly authoritarian.
Relationships
Bask Om
Jamitov maintained a close working relationship with Bask Om, who served as the Titans’ field commander and carried out much of their brutal enforcement. Both men shared similar Earth-supremacist views and a willingness to use extreme measures against Spacenoids.
Paptimus Scirocco
Jamitov’s relationship with Paptimus Scirocco was complex and ultimately fatal. While he recognised Scirocco’s value as a powerful Newtype and capable officer, he never fully trusted him despite the blood oath. His suspicions proved justified when Scirocco ultimately betrayed and killed him.
Gene Coliny
During Operation Stardust, Jamitov served as aide to Admiral Gene Coliny, learning to manipulate military situations for political gain under his superior’s command.
Behind the scenes
Jamitov Hymen was designed as one of the primary antagonists of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, representing the corrupt militaristic faction within the Earth Federation. His character served to show how democratic institutions could be subverted by ambitious individuals exploiting fear and crisis.
The character was voiced by Tomomichi Nishimura and Masaru Ikeda in Japanese, with Steve Olson providing his English voice in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and the late Dave Mallow voicing him in Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory.
His surname has occasionally been localised as “Hymem” in some materials, though “Hymen” remains the more common romanisation.
