Ian Vashti

Ian Vashti (イアン・ヴァスティ, Ian Vasuti) was Celestial Being’s chief engineer and head mechanic in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He was responsible for maintaining the Ptolemaios and its Gundam mobile suits, ensuring that the Meisters’ units remained operational throughout the organisation’s armed interventions. He is the father of Mileina Vashti, who also served aboard the Ptolemaios as a CIC operator and technician.

Biography

First season

Ian was a key member of the original Ptolemaios crew, overseeing all engineering and maintenance operations. He worked closely with the Gundam Meisters to repair, upgrade and prepare their units for each mission, and was instrumental in recovering and repairing damaged Gundams such as the GN-001 Gundam Exia after intense battles. His expertise with GN Drive technology and Celestial Being’s proprietary systems made him indispensable.

Second season and film

After Celestial Being’s return to operations, Ian continued to serve as chief engineer aboard the Ptolemaios II (and later Ptolemaios 2 Kai), supporting the new and upgraded Gundams including the GN-0000 Gundam 00 and the GN-0000+GNR-010 00 Raiser. He remained in this role through the conflict with the A-LAWS and Innovators and into the events of Awakening of the Trailblazer, where his team maintained the units used against the ELS.

Personality and traits

Ian was portrayed as a dedicated, pragmatic professional focused on keeping the ship and mobile suits in working order. His experience and calm under pressure made him a stabilising presence for the crew.

Relationships

Mileina Vashti

Ian’s daughter, Mileina, joined the Ptolemaios crew in the second season, working in the CIC and as a technician. Their shared service highlighted the family ties within Celestial Being’s personnel.
