The GN-0000 Gundam 00 (ダブルオーガンダム, Daburu Ō Gandamu) was an advanced mobile suit developed by Celestial Being in the Anno Domini timeline, featuring the revolutionary Twin Drive System that utilised two synchronised GN Drives. The mobile suit served as the successor to the GN-001 Gundam Exia and was piloted by Setsuna F. Seiei during Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season. The Gundam 00’s twin GN Drive configuration provided exponentially increased power output, making it one of the most powerful mobile suits in existence.
The “GN-0000” model number indicated a new generation of Gundam development, whilst the “00” designation reflected the mobile suit’s dual-drive configuration. The Gundam 00 represented a breakthrough in mobile suit technology, as it was the first unit to successfully utilise two GN Drives synchronised together.
History
The Gundam 00 was developed by Celestial Being in Anno Domini 2311, four years after the organisation’s initial armed interventions, as part of its return to operations. The mobile suit was designed to serve as the successor to the Gundam Exia, incorporating lessons learned from previous operations and utilising new technology that had been developed during Celestial Being’s absence.
The mobile suit’s development focused on the Twin Drive System, a revolutionary technology that utilised two synchronised GN Drives to provide exponentially increased power output. This system represented a significant advancement over single-drive units, though it required precise synchronisation between the two drives to function effectively.
The Gundam 00 was deployed at the beginning of the second season, as Celestial Being resumed its armed intervention operations. The mobile suit’s advanced capabilities made it a formidable opponent, though initial issues with the Twin Drive System’s synchronisation required resolution before it could achieve its full potential.
Design
The Gundam 00 featured a design that evolved from the Gundam Exia, maintaining similar design principles whilst incorporating improvements and new technologies. The mobile suit’s most distinctive feature was its dual GN Drive configuration, with one drive mounted on each shoulder, providing the power necessary for the Twin Drive System.
The mobile suit’s design emphasised versatility and balanced performance, allowing it to excel in various combat situations. The Gundam 00’s twin GN Drive configuration provided significantly more power than single-drive units, enabling it to utilise more powerful weapons and systems whilst maintaining high mobility.
Twin Drive System
The Gundam 00’s Twin Drive System was its most revolutionary feature, utilising two synchronised GN Drives to provide exponentially increased power output. The system required precise synchronisation between the two drives to function effectively, as improper synchronisation could result in reduced performance or system failure.
When properly synchronised, the Twin Drive System provided power output that far exceeded that of single-drive units, allowing the Gundam 00 to achieve performance levels that were previously impossible. Armaments
The Gundam 00’s standard weapons were the GN Sword II for melee combat and the GN Beam Rifle for ranged attacks.
GN Sword II
The Gundam 00 was equipped with two GN Sword II weapons, which evolved from the original GN Sword used by the Gundam Exia. These weapons combined beam saber and rifle functions, providing versatility in combat situations. The swords could be used for both close-combat and ranged attacks, making them highly effective weapons.
GN Beam Rifle
The Gundam 00 carried a GN Beam Rifle that provided powerful ranged firepower. The weapon utilised GN particles from the twin GN Drives, allowing it to achieve greater power output than single-drive units’ weapons.
GN Shield
The Gundam 00 was equipped with two GN Shields that provided defensive capabilities against both physical and beam attacks. The shields’ design incorporated GN particle technology to enhance their defensive effectiveness, whilst their dual configuration provided comprehensive protection.
GN Vulcan
The Gundam 00 featured head-mounted GN Vulcans that provided close-range defensive capabilities, allowing it to intercept missiles and engage lightly armoured targets.
