Innovators

The Innovators (イノベイター, Inobeitā) were artificially created beings in the Anno Domini timeline designed to guide humanity’s evolution. The Innovators served as the primary antagonists of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season, working to control humanity’s development according to their own vision and opposing Celestial Being’s goals of human autonomy and self-determination.

History

Origins

The Innovators were created in the Anno Domini 2290s as part of Celestial Being’s original plan, designed to serve as guides for humanity’s evolution. Created through advanced biotechnology and genetic engineering, the Innovators possessed enhanced cognitive and physical abilities that exceeded those of normal humans, making them superior beings intended to lead humanity.

However, the Innovators eventually came to view themselves as not merely guides but as the rightful rulers of humanity. This perspective led them to betray Celestial Being’s original vision, seeking to control humanity’s evolution rather than merely guiding it, and to eliminate threats to their plans.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season

In the second season, set four years after Celestial Being’s initial interventions, the Innovators emerged as the primary antagonists, operating behind the scenes to manipulate world events. Led by Ribbons Almark, the Innovators controlled the A-LAWS organisation and worked to eliminate Celestial Being, viewing the organisation as a threat to their plans for humanity’s future.

The Innovators’ philosophy centred on the belief that they were superior to normal humans and that they should control humanity’s evolution. This perspective led them to view normal humans as inferior beings who needed to be guided and directed, creating conflict with Celestial Being’s ideals of human autonomy and self-determination.

The Innovators engaged in a conflict with Celestial Being throughout the second season, with Ribbons Almark serving as the primary antagonist opposing Setsuna F. Seiei and the other Gundam Meisters. Their conflict represented the larger struggle between different visions for humanity’s future, with the Innovators advocating for controlled evolution under their guidance.

Dissolution

The Innovators’ plans were ultimately thwarted by Celestial Being, and their organisation dissolved following their defeat. However, their impact on the conflict and their challenge to Celestial Being’s mission demonstrated the complexity of humanity’s evolution and the questions surrounding who should guide it.

Organisation

Leadership

The Innovators operated under the leadership of Ribbons Almark, who served as their primary leader and strategist. Ribbons’ vision and methods shaped the Innovators’ actions throughout the second season, though his philosophy and approach sometimes created conflict with other Innovators.

Structure

The Innovators operated as a hierarchical organisation, with Ribbons serving as the primary leader and other Innovators supporting his plans. The organisation worked behind the scenes, manipulating world events and controlling other factions to achieve their goals.

Philosophy

The Innovators’ philosophy was based on the belief that they were superior to normal humans and that they should guide and control humanity’s evolution. This perspective led them to view normal humans as inferior beings who needed to be directed, creating a fundamentally different vision from Celestial Being’s emphasis on human autonomy.

The Innovators’ approach to guiding humanity emphasised control and direction rather than allowing humans to determine their own path. This philosophy created conflict with those who believed in human autonomy and self-determination, leading to the conflict that defined the second season.

Notable members

Technology

The Innovators utilised advanced mobile suits and technology, including units specifically designed for Innovator pilots. Their technological capabilities, combined with their enhanced abilities, made them formidable opponents for Celestial Being’s Gundam Meisters.
