WMS-03 Maganac
Desert mobile suit for Quatre's Maganac Corps.
The WMS-03 Maganac was a mobile suit developed by nations in the Middle East to counter OZ and the United Earth Sphere Alliance in After Colony 195. Intended for operations in the desert—an unusual environment for mobile suits—the Maganac was given high dust-proof capabilities and mobility. Despite being mobile suits with specifications close to local types, they had high versatility, and their performance surpassed the OZ-06MS Leo. The Maganac was also developed to be operated in cooperation with the XXXG-01SR Gundam Sandrock. Almost all of the 40 units were individually customized to have different abilities and traits depending on their pilots’ skills and roles. They could also be adapted for operations in space.
Overview
The Maganac represented Middle Eastern resistance to OZ and Alliance oppression. Developed by the Winner Corporation and operated by the Maganac Corps, these mobile suits demonstrated that local manufacturing could produce units superior to mass-production models like the Leo.
The Maganac’s desert specialization gave it advantages in environments where conventional mobile suits struggled. High dust-proof capabilities prevented sand infiltration into critical systems—a common problem for mobile suits operating in desert conditions. The design philosophy emphasized reliability and maintainability in harsh environments, making the Maganac ideal for prolonged operations far from advanced repair facilities.
Individual customization of almost all 40 units created a diverse force where each pilot’s skills and role were matched by specialized equipment. This included enhanced melee combat capabilities (heat tomahawks, beam sabres), improved firepower (large rifles, arm rifles), and enhanced communications. The commander type piloted by Rasid Kurama led this force with distinction.
Armament
Beam Rifle
The standard ranged weapon with a sensor attached to the barrel and an energy pack attached to the bottom. The beam rifles excelled in rapid firing and were used in mid-range firefights. They were powerful enough to destroy the Leo with one shot. One energy pack provided energy for approximately 20 shots, requiring periodic resupply during extended operations.
Heat Tomahawk
A melee weapon for severing enemies with a large blade that emitted high heat. It could be thrown, making it effective at both close and medium range. The heat tomahawk was equipped by many Maganac Corps units, becoming their signature melee weapon and reflecting the Corps’ emphasis on close-quarters desert combat.
Shield
Defensive equipment large enough to cover the entire body, equipped on the left arm via an attachment. Reactive armor could also be applied to its surface, enhancing protection against explosive weapons and shaped charges. The shield could be stored on the backpack when not in use, freeing both hands for weapon operation.
Vulcan Guns (EW version)
Appearing only in the EW version, these head-mounted shell-firing weapons had a high rate of fire but little power and were generally ineffective against mobile suits. However, they could damage lightly armoured areas such as sensors and were ideal for shooting down small, lightly armoured targets such as missiles or attack vehicles.
Optional weapons
Large Rifle: Some Maganac units were equipped with large rifles for enhanced firepower.
Arm Rifle: The Maganac Rifle Type equipped an arm rifle instead of the left hand, providing integrated firepower at the cost of hand manipulator functionality.
Beam Sabre: The Maganac Large Rifle Type mounted a beam saber on its backpack for emergency melee combat.
Special equipment
Anti-beam coating cloak (EW version)
A cloth cloak treated with anti-beam coating to protect the mobile suit from beam shots. It could completely cover the mobile suit with its size, with the exception of the head, providing full-body protection. This was only used by the EW version, adding defensive capability against beam weapons that standard titanium alloy armor couldn’t adequately resist.
Operational history
During Operation Meteor in AC 195, 40 Maganac units fought alongside the Gundam Sandrock on Earth and in space. Remarkably, all 40 units survived the entire conflict—proving both the skills of the Maganac Corps pilots and the performance of the Maganacs. This survival rate was extraordinary given the intensity of combat during the Eve Wars, demonstrating that locally-developed mobile suits with skilled pilots could match or exceed mass-production units operated by conscripts or mobile dolls.
The Maganacs’ desert specialization proved valuable not only in Middle Eastern operations but also when adapted for space combat. The Maganac Corps repeatedly provided crucial support to Quatre Raberba Winner, from rescuing him in early conflicts to supporting final battles against OZ and White Fang.
