GUND-ARMS

GUND-ARMS are mobile suits in the Ad Stella timeline that use the GUND Format to enhance pilot performance through a direct neural link. They are commonly called “Gundams” by the public. Early GUND-ARMS caused pilots serious harm, leading to a ban on the GUND Format and the Vanadis Incident. The XVX-016 Gundam Aerial in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is a GUND-ARMS that operates without injuring its pilot and is central to the story.

Overview

GUND-ARMS were developed by the Vanadis Institute with funding from Ochs Earth. They use Permet and the GUND Format to give pilots heightened spatial awareness and control. After the Vanadis Incident, the Mobile Suit Development Council banned the GUND Format; Benerit Group and others treat GUND-ARMS as illegal “Gundams”. The Aerial, built by Prospera Mercury, revives the technology in a form that does not harm the pilot and becomes the focus of corporate and political conflict.
