GUND Format
Brain–machine interface technology using Permet; basis of GUND-ARMS in Ad Stella.
The GUND Format (GUNDフォーマット, Gando Fōmatto) is a technology in the Ad Stella timeline that uses Permet to create a direct link between a pilot’s nervous system and a mobile suit or prosthetic system. Developed at the Vanadis Institute for medical and space adaptation, it was adapted for military use in GUND-ARMS and then banned after the Vanadis Incident. The Gundam Aerial in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury uses a refined GUND Format that does not harm its pilot.
Overview
GUND (General Universal Neuro-link Dispersive) was originally intended to help humans survive in space by linking the nervous system to artificial limbs and systems. Funded by Ochs Earth, the Vanadis Institute developed the GUND Format for mobile suits, creating GUND-ARMS that gave pilots enhanced control and performance. Prolonged use caused injury or death, leading the Mobile Suit Development Council to ban the technology; Delling Rembran sent Dominicus to destroy Vanadis. Prospera Mercury later built the Aerial with a safe GUND Format, central to the series’ plot.
