Vanadis Incident
A.S. 101 destruction of the Vanadis Institute and ban on the GUND Format.
The Vanadis Incident (ヴァナディス事件, Vanadisu Jiken) was the assault on the Vanadis Institute research facility Fólkvangr in A.S. 101, ordered by Delling Rembran and carried out by the Dominicus special forces. It led to the eradication of Vanadis and a permanent ban on the GUND Format and GUND-ARMS. The event is the backstory for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury: Prospera Mercury (Elnora Samaya) and Ericht Samaya survived and the GUND Format developers were stigmatised as “witches”.
Overview
The Vanadis Institute had developed the GUND Format with funding from Ochs Earth and applied it to mobile suits. When GUND-ARMS caused pilot casualties, the Mobile Suit Development Council banned the technology. Delling, then a council member and Benerit Group president, sent Dominicus to destroy Fólkvangr and eliminate the researchers. Elnora and her daughter Ericht survived; Elnora became Prospera and built the Gundam Aerial, setting the stage for the main series.
