The Garanden (ガランデン) was a battleship operated by the Capital Army during the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Reconguista in G. As one of the largest and most heavily armed vessels in the Capital Army’s fleet, the Garanden served as a major military platform in the conflicts surrounding the Capital Tower and represented the conventional military might of the Regild Century’s established order.
History

The Garanden was constructed as a capital ship for the Capital Army, the military force responsible for the defence of the Capital Tower and its surrounding territories. Its size and armament made it one of the most powerful vessels in the Capital Army’s fleet, capable of projecting military force across Earth’s surface and into the orbital regions around the Tower.
The ship’s deployment reflected the Capital Army’s institutional approach to military operations — relying on established doctrine, proven equipment, and overwhelming force to maintain order. The Garanden embodied this philosophy, combining heavy armour, powerful weapons, and the capacity to carry and deploy a significant mobile suit complement.
Role in the Reconguista conflict
During the Reconguista conflict, the Garanden was deployed in operations to counter the threats posed by the Pirate Corps operating from the Megafauna, the Amerian Army, and the forces of Towasanga. Its heavy armament made it a formidable opponent in ship-to-ship engagements, while its mobile suit complement allowed it to project force against ground and space targets.
The Garanden’s confrontations with the Megafauna highlighted the contrast between the Capital Army’s conventional approach to warfare and the Pirate Corps’ more flexible, adaptive tactics. While the Garanden possessed superior firepower, the Megafauna’s manoeuvrability and the presence of the YG-111 Gundam G-Self often levelled the playing field.
Design & capabilities
The Garanden was a large battleship with multi-environment capabilities, allowing it to operate in Earth’s atmosphere and in space. Its armament included mega particle cannons, missile launchers, and beam gun turrets, providing comprehensive firepower against targets at all ranges. The ship carried a complement of Capital Army mobile suits, including the MSAM-034 Jahannam, the CAMS-03 Elf Bullock, and the CAMS-04 Wuxia.
