The xvm-zgc Zeydra (xvm-zgc ゼイドラ, xvm-zgc Zeidora) was an upgraded mobile suit piloted by Zeheart Galette in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE. As the successor to the Zedas, the Zeydra represented a significant improvement in Vagan’s commander-class mobile suit technology.

The Zeydra was assigned to Zeheart as his personal mobile suit during the later stages of the second generation war. It offered enhanced performance, improved weaponry, and better defensive capabilities compared to the Zedas, reflecting Zeheart’s growing importance within Vagan’s military hierarchy.

History

Development

The Zeydra was developed as an evolution of the Zedas design, incorporating lessons learned from Vagan’s encounters with the Earth Federation’s AGE series of Gundams. Vagan engineers focused on improving the mobile suit’s firepower, mobility, and defensive systems to create a unit that could compete with Federation elite mobile suits.

The Zeydra retained the transformable capability of its predecessor, allowing Zeheart to maintain the tactical flexibility that had served him well in earlier battles. However, the Zeydra’s individual systems were significantly upgraded across the board.

Zeheart’s upgraded unit

Zeheart transitioned to the Zeydra after his Zedas proved increasingly outmatched by newer Federation mobile suits. The Zeydra’s improved performance allowed Zeheart to maintain his status as one of Vagan’s most dangerous pilots, capable of engaging even the AGE-2 Gundam on relatively equal terms.

The Zeydra was Zeheart’s primary mobile suit during the critical engagements of the war’s middle period. His encounters with Asemu Asuno in the Zeydra were among the most intense battles of the second generation, with both pilots pushing their mobile suits to the limit.

Legacy

The Zeydra served as the technological bridge between Vagan’s early commander units and their ultimate mobile suit, the Gundam Legilis. The design lessons learned from the Zeydra’s development contributed directly to the Legilis programme.

Design

Specifications

The Zeydra stood approximately 19.5 metres tall, slightly larger than the Zedas. Its armour was improved, offering better protection against beam weapons, and its reactor output was increased to support more powerful weaponry.

Armaments

Beam Rifle

An upgraded beam rifle with higher output than the Zedas’s weapon, capable of engaging heavily armoured Federation mobile suits.

Beam Shield

The Zeydra introduced a beam shield — an energy-based defensive system that was more effective than conventional physical shields against beam weapons.

Beam Sabers

Two beam sabers were mounted for close combat, with improved output matching the Zeydra’s overall power profile.
