Wendy Hertz (ウェンディ・ハーツ, Wendi Hātsu) was a character in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE and a friend of Kio Asuno during the third generation of the war against Vagan. She served aboard the assault ship Diva, continuing the vessel’s legacy as the flagship of Earth Federation operations against Vagan forces.

Biography

Early life

Wendy was born during the second generation of the war, growing up in a world where the conflict between the Earth Federation and Vagan was a constant presence. Like many of her generation, she knew nothing but war — a reality that shaped her outlook and her decision to join the military.

Serving aboard the Diva

Wendy joined the crew of the Diva, the legendary assault ship that had served under Flit Asuno and Asemu Asuno in earlier generations of the war. By the third generation, the Diva remained in service and continued to play a crucial role in Federation operations.

Onboard the Diva, Wendy formed a close friendship with Kio Asuno, the young pilot of the AGE-3 Gundam. Despite Kio’s status as the grandson of Flit Asuno and the great hope of the Federation, Wendy treated him as an equal — a friend rather than a symbol.

Friendship with Kio

Wendy’s friendship with Kio was important because it provided the young pilot with a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos of war. Kio was carrying an enormous burden as the third-generation Gundam pilot, expected to bring the war to an end and redeem his family’s legacy. Wendy’s presence reminded him that he was still a person, not just a weapon.

Her relationship with Kio also highlighted the generational differences within the Asuno family. While Flit Asuno was consumed by hatred for Vagan and Asemu Asuno struggled with his father’s expectations, Kio — supported by friends like Wendy — sought a different approach to the conflict, one rooted in compassion rather than vengeance.

Personality & traits

Wendy was optimistic, friendly, and supportive. She had a natural warmth that drew people to her, and she used this quality to uplift those around her during the dark days of war. Her friendship with Kio was built on genuine care and understanding, making her an important emotional anchor for the young pilot.

Despite her youth, Wendy demonstrated resilience in the face of danger. Serving aboard the Diva put her on the front lines of the war, and she handled the stresses of combat with grace and determination.
