Romary Stone

Romary Stone (ロマリー・ストーン, Romarī Sutōn) was a civilian in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE and the love interest of Asemu Asuno, the second generation AGE-2 Gundam pilot. She represented the civilian perspective on a war that had raged for decades and the human cost of the conflict between the Earth Federation and Vagan.

Biography

Meeting Asemu

Romary encountered Asemu Asuno during the second generation of the war against Vagan. At the time, Asemu was struggling under the enormous expectations placed upon him as the son of Flit Asuno, the legendary creator of the AGE System and pilot of the original AGE-1 Gundam.

Unlike the military figures who expected Asemu to live up to his father’s reputation, Romary saw him as a person — with doubts, fears, and his own dreams separate from his father’s legacy. This genuine connection provided Asemu with emotional support during one of the most difficult periods of his life.

Relationship with Asemu

Romary and Asemu’s relationship developed against the backdrop of the ongoing war. She became a stabilising force in his life, helping him navigate the pressures of being a Gundam pilot and the son of a war hero. Her civilian perspective reminded Asemu of what he was fighting for — not just victory in battle, but a future in which ordinary people could live in peace.

However, the war took its toll on their relationship. Asemu’s duty as a pilot and the increasing intensity of the conflict with Vagan made it difficult for him to maintain a normal life. The uncertainties of war, combined with the emotional weight of his family’s legacy, created strains that tested their bond.

Impact on Asemu’s journey

Romary’s presence in Asemu’s life was significant because she represented an alternative to the cycle of hatred that had consumed Flit. While Flit was driven by vengeance, Asemu — influenced in part by Romary and other relationships — sought to find his own path through the war. This generational difference between father and son was a central theme of the series’ second arc.

Personality & traits

Romary was compassionate, grounded, and independent. She possessed a quiet strength that allowed her to face the uncertainties of wartime life with dignity. Unlike many characters who were defined by their military roles, Romary maintained her civilian identity throughout the war.

Her relationship with Asemu was built on mutual respect and understanding rather than shared combat experience. This made her an important voice of perspective in a series largely populated by soldiers and pilots.
