Earth Forces

The Earth Forces (地球軍, Chikyū-gun) are the unified military organisation of Earth in Aldnoah.Zero. Formed in response to the Vers Empire’s invasion, the Earth Forces coordinate Terran defence using Kataphrakt units and tactical innovation to counter the Martians’ Aldnoah-powered superiority.

History

Formation

The Earth Forces were established as a unified military command in the years leading up to the Vers–Earth War. As tensions between Earth and the Vers Empire escalated, Earth’s nations recognised the need for a coordinated defence structure capable of responding to the Martian threat. The Earth Forces brought together resources, personnel, and technology from across the planet under a single command.

The organisation’s early efforts focused on developing Kataphrakt technology — Earth’s answer to the Vers Empire’s Aldnoah-powered units. Whilst the Earth Forces could not match the raw power of Aldnoah, they compensated through numerical production, tactical flexibility, and the development of specialised units like the Areion.

The Vers–Earth War

When the Vers Empire launched its invasion of Earth, the Earth Forces bore the brunt of the initial assault. The Martian Orbital Knights’ superior technology and unique Aldnoah abilities caught Earth off guard, and early engagements were marked by heavy losses. However, the Earth Forces’ adaptability and the emergence of skilled pilots like Inaho Kaizuka gradually turned the tide.

The Deucalion, one of the Earth Forces’ most important assets, served as a mobile base for Kataphrakt operations and became associated with some of the war’s most significant engagements. The ship’s crew, including officers like Marito Kaizuka, demonstrated the Earth Forces’ growing competence in countering Vers advantages.

Tactical innovation

The Earth Forces’ greatest strength was not technology but adaptability. Faced with opponents wielding superior Aldnoah-powered weapons, Earth Forces pilots developed tactical innovations that exploited the limitations of Vers units. Inaho Kaizuka, in particular, demonstrated that analytical thinking and composure could overcome raw power, inspiring other pilots to adopt similar approaches.

The Earth Forces also invested in improving their Kataphrakt designs throughout the war, incorporating lessons learned from combat into upgraded variants and custom units. This iterative approach allowed them to narrow the technological gap with the Vers Empire over time.

Organisation

The Earth Forces operate under a hierarchical military structure, with command authority flowing from senior officers to unit leaders and individual pilots. The organisation encompasses ground forces, naval assets including the Deucalion, and Kataphrakt units.

Kataphrakt forces

The Earth Forces’ Kataphrakt units are their primary combat arm, equipped with Areion units designed to engage Vers Kataphrakts. These units are deployed from mobile bases like the Deucalion or from ground installations, and they form the backbone of Earth’s defensive capability.

Naval assets

The Earth Forces maintain naval vessels including the Deucalion, which serves as a mobile command centre and Kataphrakt transport. These ships allow the Earth Forces to project power across multiple theatres and respond rapidly to Vers offensives.

Personnel

The Earth Forces draw personnel from across Earth’s nations. Many early volunteers were civilians thrust into combat by the Vers invasion — students, engineers, and ordinary people who found themselves on the front lines. Over time, the organisation developed a core of experienced veterans who provided leadership and expertise.

Technology

The Earth Forces’ technology is conventional compared to the Vers Empire’s Aldnoah-powered systems, but it is effective when combined with tactical innovation.

Kataphrakts

The Areion is the Earth Forces’ standard Kataphrakt, designed to match the mobility of Vers units whilst remaining producible in sufficient numbers. Custom variants, including those piloted by Inaho Kaizuka, incorporate field modifications that enhance performance against specific threats.

Conventional weapons

The Earth Forces rely on conventional weapons — firearms, missiles, and naval guns — to engage Vers forces. While these weapons lack the raw power of Aldnoah technology, they are reliable and can be effective when used with proper tactics.

Society and culture

The Earth Forces represent humanity’s unity in the face of an existential threat. Personnel from diverse nationalities and backgrounds serve together, bound by the common goal of defending Earth.
