AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II
Prototype Newtype-use assault mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon.
The AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II was a prototype Newtype-use assault mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon. It served as the test unit for Elpeo Ple.
The “AMX” in the type code referred to it being an Axis Zeon mobile weapon. The code number “004” indicated it was the fourth mobile weapon design. The block number “2” meant it was the second unit from this line.
History
The Principality of Zeon originally developed the AMX-001 Prototype Qubeley during the One Year War based on data from the MAN-08 Elmeth. After Zeon’s defeat, fleeing engineers brought the prototype’s blueprints to Axis. The design was refined using data from the MS-09R4 Psycommu Rick Dom “Schnee Weiss” to create the AMX-004 Qubeley.
Following the Qubeley’s success during the Gryps Conflict and early First Neo Zeon War, Neo Zeon developed two improved units in UC 0088: the AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II and AMX-004-3 Qubeley Mk-II. The first unit was assigned to ten-year-old Newtype Elpeo Ple on 12 April UC 0088 to measure her Newtype abilities through combat data. Like Haman Karn with the original Qubeley, Ple demonstrated remarkable skill with the mobile suit.
The Qubeley Mk-II first engaged the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) when survivors from the Endra ambushed the assault carrier Argama. After AEUG forces routed the attackers, Ple emerged from a dummy asteroid in her Qubeley Mk-II to cover the retreat, engaging both the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam and RX-178 Gundam Mk-II. The Argama mistook her for Haman Karn and fired its hyper mega particle cannon, but Ple evaded and withdrew.
Later, when Judau Ashta infiltrated Axis to rescue his sister Leina, Ple used the Qubeley Mk-II to take Leina hostage and lead Judau’s MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam on a chase through the base. Ple subsequently defected to the AEUG with her mobile suit to join Judau, whom she had come to view as a brother.
The Qubeley Mk-II was destroyed when Ple sacrificed herself to protect Judau during a battle against her clone Ple Two, who briefly piloted the AMX-004-3 Qubeley Mk-II before being reassigned to the MRX-010 Psyco Gundam Mk-II.
The Qubeley Mk-II units later served as the basis for the AMX-004G Qubeley Mass Production Type.
Design
The AMX-004-2 Qubeley Mk-II was nearly identical to the AMX-004-3 Qubeley Mk-II with three key differences: it featured a purple and pink color scheme, used hybrid beam sabers with distinctive hilts, and retained the original Qubeley’s psycommu system rather than the new system used in the AMX-004-3.
The mobile suit had a panoramic monitor with linear seat cockpit in its torso. Its armor was constructed from Gundarium alloy alloy developed by Zeon at Axis.
AMBAC system
A pair of rocket thrusters providing 61,600 kg of total thrust powered the Qubeley Mk-II. For enhanced maneuverability, it featured twelve vernier thrusters and apogee motors integrated into the wing binders on its shoulders and tail binder. This Active Mass Balance Auto Control (AMBAC) system granted exceptional mobility in space. The independent wing binders on each shoulder allowed precise control, while mounting the main thrusters under the wing binders instead of on the back accommodated the tail binder.
Armaments
The Qubeley Mk-II’s standard weapons were two hybrid beam sabers that could function as both beam guns and beam sabers, plus twelve remote-controlled funnels with mounted beam guns for long-range attacks.
Hybrid beam sabers
Each forearm stored a hybrid beam saber that could switch between beam gun and beam saber modes. In beam gun mode, they drew power directly from the mobile suit’s Minovsky reactor to fire penetrating beams capable of destroying mobile suits with a single hit.
When removed from the forearms, the weapons switched to beam saber mode. Unlike the original Qubeley’s beam sabers, the Mk-II’s featured distinctive three-pronged hilts. They used an I-field to contain Minovsky particles in a blade shape that could cut through almost any material. The sabers recharged their energy capacitors when stored in the forearms.
Funnels
The tail binder housed twelve remote-controlled funnels powered by energy capacitors. Each funnel mounted a 1.3 MW beam gun and featured one main thruster plus eight vernier thrusters for mobility. Though they had to periodically return to the tail binder to recharge, the funnels’ small size and high speed made them difficult to detect visually.
The psycommu system allowed near-instantaneous control of the funnels through the pilot’s brainwaves. This enabled complex attack patterns from multiple angles, leaving enemies with few escape options while the Qubeley Mk-II remained safely out of visual range.
