AGE-1S Gundam AGE-1 Spallow

The AGE-1S Gundam AGE-1 Spallow (ガンダムAGE-1 スパロー, Gandamu Eiji Wan Suparō) was a high mobility variant of the AGE-1 Gundam, developed by the AGE System for situations requiring superior speed and agility. The “Spallow” configuration represented the opposite approach to the AGE-1T Titus — rather than adding armour, it stripped it away to maximise mobility.

The Spallow’s design philosophy was built around speed and evasion rather than brute force. Its lightweight construction and enhanced thrusters made it the fastest variant of the AGE-1, capable of outmanoeuvring most enemy mobile suits.

History

Development

The Spallow variant was generated by the AGE System in response to combat scenarios where mobility was more valuable than armour. When the AGE-1 Normal faced enemies that could outmanoeuvre it, the AGE System analysed the tactical requirements and proposed a lightweight configuration.

The Spallow stripped away much of the AGE-1’s armour, replacing it with enhanced thrusters and propulsion systems. The result was a mobile suit that sacrificed defensive capability for exceptional speed and manoeuvrability.

Combat use

Flit Asuno deployed the Spallow configuration in situations where speed was critical — intercepting fast-moving enemy units, conducting hit-and-run attacks, and escaping from numerically superior forces. The Spallow’s agility made it an excellent choice for hit-and-run tactics and for engaging enemies that relied on speed rather than firepower.

The Spallow was also used in atmospheric combat, where its lightweight design and powerful thrusters gave it an advantage over heavier mobile suits that struggled with atmospheric drag.

Design

Specifications

The Spallow was the lightest variant of the AGE-1, weighing approximately 46 tonnes in gross configuration — significantly lighter than both the Normal and Titus variants. This weight reduction came from thinner armour plating and the removal of unnecessary equipment, allowing the Spallow to achieve speeds that other AGE-1 variants could not match.

Armaments

DODS Rifle

The Spallow retained the standard DODS Rifle, providing effective ranged firepower. The weapon’s energy efficiency meant the Spallow could engage in prolonged firefights without running out of ammunition.

Magazine Bazooka

A specialised magazine-fed bazooka that provided additional firepower for the Spallow’s hit-and-run tactics. The weapon could be loaded with various projectile types depending on the tactical situation.

Beam Sabers

Two beam sabers were retained for close combat, though the Spallow’s primary defensive strategy was evasion rather than engagement at close range.

Mobility Systems

The Spallow’s defining feature was its enhanced propulsion system. Additional thrusters were mounted on the backpack, shoulders, and legs, providing thrust that far exceeded the AGE-1 Normal’s capabilities. Combined with the reduced weight from thinner armour, this made the Spallow the most agile mobile suit of its generation.
