ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam
ZAFT prototype transformable amphibious mobile suit; stolen by Phantom Pain and piloted by Auel Neider.
The ZGMF-X31S Abyss Gundam (アビスガンダム, Abisu Gandamu) was a prototype transformable amphibious mobile suit developed by ZAFT and one of three Second Stage units stolen by the Earth Alliance’s Phantom Pain during the Battle at Armory One. Auel Neider piloted it in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. The Abyss used Variable Phase Shift Armor and could transform into a mobile armour mode usable underwater, with beam weaponry (including chest and fin-mounted cannons) instead of phonon masers. Power was supplied by a deuterion beam recharge system.
History
The Abyss was at Armory One when Phantom Pain attacked. Auel stole it and operated it in naval and underwater engagements until his death.
Design
The Abyss was optimised for underwater and amphibious operations. Its MA form provided high mobility and firepower beneath the surface.
