Slaine Troyard

Slaine Troyard (スレイン・トロイヤード, Surein Toroiyādo) was a knight of the Vers Empire. The son of a Vers knight and an Earth woman, he was marked by mixed heritage and low standing, and he fought to prove himself within the empire during its war with Earth.

History

Slaine Troyard rose from page in the Vers Empire to a count who tried to impose his own peace on Earth and Mars.

Service under Count Saazbaum

Slaine served as a page to Count Saazbaum, a high-ranking Vers noble. Despite that place, he faced constant discrimination from pure-blooded Vers nobles because of his Earth heritage. His only companion was Asseylum Vers Allusia, the princess he had known since childhood and to whom he was deeply devoted.

When Asseylum travelled to Earth for peace talks, Slaine accompanied her. After the conference was bombed and war broke out, he fought to protect the princess, piloting an Areion against Earth forces. His loyalty to Asseylum often put him at odds with his Vers superiors, particularly Saazbaum, whose true intentions Slaine gradually uncovered.

After the ceasefire

Following the ceasefire, Slaine’s status rose sharply. He acquired his own custom Nilokeras and the title of Count, and became a major political figure. His methods grew more ruthless as he manipulated events to consolidate power and protect Asseylum, even while she remained in a coma.

His actions became more extreme, and ended in an attempt to unite Earth and Mars under his own rule. His rivalry with Inaho Kaizuka became the central struggle of that later war: two pilots of similar skill, with opposed ideas of war and peace.

Personality

Slaine was driven by emotion, loyalty, and a deep need for acceptance. Where Inaho Kaizuka calculated, Slaine decided by feeling and by personal ties. His devotion to Asseylum was absolute, and it became increasingly possessive.

His mixed heritage left him an outsider in both Earth and Vers society. That insecurity fed his ambition to prove his worth through combat and political manoeuvring. Even after he held a noble title, he never fully belonged to the Vers aristocracy he served.

Relationships

• Asseylum Vers Allusia: The princess he devoted his life to protecting. His feelings moved from childhood loyalty to romantic attachment, and grew increasingly possessive.
• Inaho Kaizuka: His principal rival. Both were skilled pilots from humble backgrounds, and the contrast between them defined the rivalry.
• Count Saazbaum: His former master and mentor, whose betrayal shaped Slaine’s distrust of the Vers nobility.
