Professor G

Professor G (プロフェッサーG, Purofessā G) was the engineer and creator of the XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe, as well as co-creator of the spaceship Peacemillion, and Duo Maxwell’s mentor. Distinguished by his long nose, mushroom-shaped hair, and long scar on his cheek, Professor G was sardonic and eccentric like Doctor J. He tended to describe Deathscythe as “the ultimate work of art,” perhaps due to his specialization in stealth systems. A member of the Sweeper Group, Professor G died on 24 December AC 195 alongside the other Gundam Scientists when they sacrificed themselves to prevent Libra from crashing into Earth.

Biography

Tallgeese development and Sweeper Group

Professor G was one of the scientists who designed the Tallgeese, but left after the Alliance began oppressing the colonies. He joined the Sweeper Group, a salvage operation that also served as cover for anti-Alliance resistance activities.

Duo’s recruitment (AC 192)

In AC 192, Professor G and the Sweeper Group caught a stowaway on their spaceship named Duo Maxwell. Impressed by Duo cracking his security codes, G offered to train him as a Gundam pilot. Duo later joined the Sweeper Group and accepted the role, with Professor G beginning construction of Deathscythe.

Operation Meteor subversion (AC 195)

When Duo refused to execute the original genocidal plan of Operation Meteor, he attempted to destroy Deathscythe using anchored explosives, planning to kill everyone in the factory, including himself and Professor G. However, Professor G caught him in the act just as the detonator failed—G had disarmed the explosives. G “suggested” Duo should steal Deathscythe and fight the Alliance on his own terms as the “God of Death.” He also advocated Howard’s assistance for ongoing support.

Capture and forced labour

Professor G was the first of the scientists captured by OZ. They presumed him to be the developer of all the Gundams, but he confessed he had only built Deathscythe. He was soon reunited with his fellow scientists, all commissioned by Lady Une to create mobile suits more powerful than the Gundams. Together, they built the Mercurius and Vayeate with respective defensive and offensive capabilities.

However, in secret, the scientists were also reconstructing Deathscythe and Shenlong as Altron. When Duo infiltrated the lunar base, Professor G promised the Gundams would be completed in a month, but they had to beat Duo up and imprison him to hide the secret project.

When Chief Engineer Tubarov attempted to suffocate the pilots and scientists, Une returned to save them.

Final sacrifice (24 December AC 195)

Professor G and his fellow scientists were captured by White Fang and forced to work for them. Near the end of the Eve Wars, he and the other scientists purposefully sacrificed themselves in the reactivation of Peacemillion’s engines to prevent Libra from crashing into Earth, atoning for their role in creating weapons of war.

Relationships

Duo Maxwell

Professor G had a good relationship with Duo, encouraging him to steal the mobile suit he created and fight on his own terms. He recognized Duo’s independent spirit and skill, choosing to mentor him rather than command him. Their relationship was built on mutual respect—G valued Duo’s ingenuity whilst Duo appreciated G’s willingness to support his chosen path.

The Gundam Scientists

Professor G appeared to get along with his fellow Gundam Scientists, though he seemed more cantankerous than some of the others. His eccentricity and sardonic humour distinguished him from the group, but they worked together effectively when developing mobile suits and planning sabotage operations against their captors.
