NZ-999 II Neo Zeong
Attack use mobile armor developed by the Republic of Zeon for the MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein.
The NZ-999 II Neo Zeong was an attack use mobile armor built by the Republic of Zeon from spare parts of Full Frontal’s original NZ-999 Neo Zeong.
The “NZ” in the model code stood for “Neo Zeon”, indicating its origins, and the “999” denoted it was based on the 999th design in the NZ series. The “II” (read as “Second”) designation indicated it was the second Neo Zeong unit, assembled using spare parts created during the development of the original.
History
The NZ-999 II Neo Zeong was assembled using spare parts created during the development of Full Frontal’s original NZ-999 Neo Zeong. After the defeat of the Sleeves, the II Neo Zeong was captured by the Earth Federation Forces. It was then secretly transferred to the Republic of Zeon military by Michele Luio through Luio & Co.
The mobile armor was assigned to the Gulltoppr, a modified Chivvay-class specifically designed to carry it, with the MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein as its core unit and Cyber Newtype Zoltan Akkanen as its pilot. It was intended as their trump card for the capture of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex.
In UC 0097, the Shezarr Unit and Zoltan’s team encountered one another in the Side 6 colony Metis when both detected the presence of the Phenex there through the psycho monitor. Unbeknownst to them, Michele faked the psycho monitor readings to lure them into one another. As Zoltan violently attacked Jona Basta’s RX-9/B Narrative Gundam B-Packs in the Sinanju Stein, the resulting Psycho-Frame resonance between the two mobile suits lured the Phenex to the colony, just as Michele predicted.
During the battle in Side 6’s Metis Colony, the NT-D (Newtype Destroyer) System of Jona Basta’s RX-9/B Narrative Gundam B-Packs “psycommu jacked” the II Neo Zeong and summoned it into the colony. The Narrative Gundam briefly docked with the II Neo Zeong before Jona was able to quell his anger and regain control.
Later, Zoltan docked his Sinanju Stein with the II Neo Zeong and attacked the helium-3 storage base, destroying the Earth Federation Forces flagship General Revil in the process. Zoltan also destroyed the RX-9/C Narrative Gundam C-Packs, but Jona escaped and used the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex to kill Zoltan. Afterward, the Phenex, controlled by the consciousness of pilot Rita Bernal, made the II Neo Zeong disappear in a flash of light generated by its Psycho-Frame.
Design
The NZ-999 II Neo Zeong was built from spare parts of the original NZ-999 Neo Zeong. In contrast to the Neo Zeong’s Char Aznable-inspired red color scheme, the II Neo Zeong featured a gray color scheme to match Zoltan Akkanen’s MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein.
A new frame was added to the front of the shoulder weapon bay in order to increase the rigidity, and the front hatch of the weapon bay was removed. The added frame was painted red, becoming a characteristic feature. Compared to the original, the II Neo Zeong’s shoulder weapon bays were exposed and reinforced with this new red colored frame.
In terms of armament, wired guidance function was incorporated into the arms, making movements reminiscent of the MSN-02 Zeong’s possible. The arms now included a wire-guided function, allowing them to operate similar to Char’s original MSN-02 Zeong from the One Year War.
The II Neo Zeong maintained the same massive dimensions as the original, with an overall height of 116.0 metres, head height of 80.0 metres, and overall width of 58.0 metres. Like its predecessor, it featured four I-field generators mounted on the waist for defence against beam weapons and retained the sturm booster system for enhanced mobility.
The mobile armor incorporated Psycho-Frame technology in its cockpit frame, allowing for enhanced pilot interface with the massive machine’s systems. The II Neo Zeong had three landing gears, two stored underneath its front skirt armor and one mounted in the rear skirt armor. Due to their large size, the two front landing gears could also serve as sub-arm units to grab onto enemy mobile suits which got close to the II Neo Zeong.
Armaments
The II Neo Zeong’s standard weapons were multiple mega particle cannons for overwhelming ranged firepower, wired funnel bits for all-range attacks, and the revolutionary psycho-shard generators.
60 mm vulcan guns
Mounted in the head of the MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein, the core unit of the II Neo Zeong, the pair of vulcan guns are not very powerful and typically unable to penetrate mobile suit armor, but they are useful in restricting enemy movements, intercepting missiles and the likes.
Mega particle cannons
The II Neo Zeong mounted six mega particle cannons on its shoulders, providing devastating ranged firepower. These cannons could fire concentrated beams capable of destroying multiple mobile suits or severely damaging capital ships.
Large-caliber high mega particle cannon
Mounted on the II Neo Zeong’s waist, this cannon had a limited rate of fire but the highest output of all the unit’s ranged beam weaponry. This weapon provided the mobile armor with its most devastating single-shot capability.
Psycho-shard generators
A large psycommu armament and also the II Neo Zeong’s most powerful weapon. The generators are stored within the sides of the skirt armor and in the large shoulder thruster units. Once deployed, they create a massive ring of golden hexagonal crystals, the psycho shards, behind the machine’s back. The psycho shards then generate a massive psycho field, which is said to be capable of actualizing the pilot’s thoughts.
Wired funnel bits
The II Neo Zeong featured many wired funnel bits mounted on its primary and secondary arms. These psycommu-guided weapons could operate at extended range while maintaining a physical connection to the main unit. The wired guidance function incorporated into the arms allowed them to operate similar to the original MSN-02 Zeong, providing both offensive capability and the ability to capture enemy mobile suits.
Sinanju Stein armaments
As the control unit, the MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein retained access to all of its standard armaments when docked with the II Neo Zeong. This included beam rifles, rocket bazookas stored in the II Neo Zeong’s shoulder-mounted weapon containers, a shield with integrated beam axes that could combine to form a beam naginata, and various other weapons from the Sinanju Stein’s arsenal.
The same type of weapon as used by the MSN-06S Sinanju, the two rocket bazookas are stored in the II Neo Zeong’s shoulder-mounted weapon containers. They are used by the Sinanju Stein and each shot is capable of destroying a mobile suit or puncturing the armor of most battleships.

Behind the scenes
Hajime Katoki was the original mechanical designer for the NZ-999 II Neo Zeong.
The II Neo Zeong’s incorporation of wire-guided arm functions was a direct homage to the MSN-02 Zeong, Char Aznable’s final mobile suit from the One Year War. This design choice reinforced the connection between the Neo Zeong lineage and the original Red Comet’s legacy.
