The General Revil was a Dogosse Giar-class space battleship that served as flagship of the Earth Federation Space Force during the Laplace Incident in UC 0096. The ship was named after Johann Abraham Revil, the famous Earth Federation commander during the One Year War.

History

Following the Gryps War and the destruction of the lead ship Dogosse Giar in UC 0088, the Earth Federation Forces began reconstruction efforts. As part of this rebuilding programme, the second ship of the Dogosse Giar-class was constructed and designated as the General Revil. The vessel was completed in UC 0095 and entered service the following year as the flagship of the Earth Federation’s orbital fleet.

Laplace Incident

During the Laplace Incident in UC 0096, the General Revil played a central role in the Federation’s response to the crisis. Initially tasked with eliminating the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama and the Garencieres, the battleship was intercepted by Full Frontal in the MSN-06S Sinanju and Angelo Sauper in the YAMS-132 Rozen Zulu. Despite its overwhelming firepower, the General Revil was forced to retreat from this engagement.

Later in the incident, the battleship was dispatched to Industrial 7 after Gryps 2 failed to destroy the Magallanica in an attempt to prevent Mineva Lao Zabi from revealing the contents of Laplace’s Box to the world. However, all of its mobile suits were disabled by a single wave from the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, demonstrating the limitations of conventional military force against Newtype abilities.

Final Fate

In UC 0097, the General Revil met its destruction whilst engaging Zoltan Akkanen’s NZ-999 II Neo Zeong during the events depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative.

Design

The General Revil was based on the original Dogosse Giar-class design but incorporated several modifications to enhance its mobile suit operations capability. Unlike its predecessor, the General Revil was larger at 630 metres overall length and replaced some of its armament with additional mobile suit hangars and catapults, increasing its mobile suit carrying capacity from the original design.

The battleship was designed to accommodate four battalions of mobile suits, totalling 48 machines, making it one of the largest mobile suit carriers in the Earth Federation fleet. This substantial mobile suit complement was supported by 14 launch catapults, allowing for rapid deployment of forces during combat operations.

Armaments

The General Revil maintained formidable firepower despite its increased focus on mobile suit operations.

Main armament

The primary weapons of the General Revil were three main gun turrets mounted along the ship’s ventral hull. These were the ship’s largest and most powerful guns, though they appeared to be compact versions compared to those mounted on the original Dogosse Giar.

Secondary armament

The battleship was equipped with multiple secondary gun turrets of varying configurations. Two 2-barrel main gun turrets were mounted on the port and starboard sides of the middle section. Four secondary gun turrets were positioned on top of the middle section and on the port and starboard rear hangars. Additionally, four 2-barrel secondary gun turrets were mounted above and below the main hangars, whilst two 3-barrel secondary gun turrets were installed in the middle section.

Tertiary armament

For point defence and anti-mobile suit operations, the General Revil carried an extensive array of tertiary weapons. Twenty 2-barrel tertiary gun turrets were distributed throughout the main body, supplemented by ten 3-barrel tertiary gun turrets also mounted throughout the vessel.

Missile systems

Six rail missile launchers were mounted on the main body of the ship, providing additional long-range firepower options for various tactical situations.

Mobile suit complement

The General Revil’s primary tactical role was as a mobile suit carrier. Its hangars could accommodate 48 mobile suits organised into four battalions. The 14 catapults allowed for rapid simultaneous deployment of multiple units, giving the ship significant strike capability in mobile suit warfare.

Behind the scenes

Katoki Hajime was the original mechanical designer for the Dogosse Giar-class. The General Revil was named after the famous One Year War commander General Revil, reflecting the Earth Federation’s practice of naming warships after distinguished military figures.
