The MSN-06S Sinanju was a prototype Newtype-use mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics as part of the Earth Federation’s UC Project and later modified by Neo Zeon for Full Frontal.

The “MSN” in the model code indicated it was a Mobile Suit Neo design, “06” denoted it was derived from the Zaku II series, and “S” designated it as a commander-type mobile suit. The model number was deliberately chosen to echo the MS-06S Zaku II Commander Type that Char Aznable once piloted, reflecting Full Frontal’s identity as “The Second Coming of Char”.

History

Following the Axis Shock of UC 0093, Anaheim Electronics continued to develop the mysterious psychoframe technology as part of the Earth Federation Forces’ UC Project. Two MSN-06S Sinanju Stein units were created under the development code Stein 01 as a testbed for the full psychoframe implementation intended for the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.

In UC 0094, Neo Zeon stole two MSN-06S Sinanju Stein units during transport aboard the Clop-class cruiser Unkai. The theft was actually part of a secret deal between Anaheim Electronics, high-ranking Earth Federation officials, and Neo Zeon remnants, disguised as an attack. Through this, the Federation planned on revitalising Neo Zeon so they could be swept away as part of the UC Project.

Neo Zeon remodelled one of the stolen units to give it a Zeon aesthetic, particularly to invoke the image of “Red Comet” Char Aznable’s MSN-04 Sazabi from the Second Neo Zeon War. All of the Gundam-like features (except for the head-mounted vulcan guns) in the Sinanju Stein were replaced with a Zeonic design and weaponry. Painted in crimson and with gold engraving, the Sinanju looked like the emblem of the Neo Zeon forces embodied.

The Sinanju served as the personal suit of Neo Zeon leader Full Frontal, a man nicknamed as “The Second Coming of Char.” Full Frontal used the Sinanju throughout the Laplace Incident of UC 0096, and near the end of the conflict the suit became the control unit for the massive mobile armor NZ-999 Neo Zeong.

Design

The implementation of the psychoframe around the cockpit, first seen in the Sazabi and RX-93 ν Gundam, gave the Sinanju dramatically improved responsiveness and combat ability. The Sinanju was a high speed unit that featured flexible thrusters and mounted a pair of propellant tanks on its backpack for extended operational time.

The mobile suit’s entire exterior was redesigned in the Zeon style to make it a flagship machine that would symbolise and lead the Neo Zeon forces. This decoration not only strengthened the armour, but was also said to be a design that was meant to control the organisation known as the Neo Zeon remnants.

The Sinanju had an ultracompact Minovsky power plant that generated an output of 3,240 kW. It had rocket thrusters that generated 128,600 kg of total thrust. The mobile suit had a standard cockpit in its torso with a panoramic monitor and linear seat.

The Sinanju was equipped with sensors with a range of 23,600 metres and featured a psychoframe cockpit frame with an intention automatic system that allowed the pilot’s thoughts to directly control the mobile suit.

Armaments

The Sinanju’s standard weapons were vulcan guns and beam sabers for close combat, and a beam rifle for ranged attacks. It also carried beam axes and a grenade launcher as secondary weapons.

60 mm vulcan guns

A pair of 60 mm vulcan guns were mounted in the Sinanju’s head. These rapid-fire weapons were used primarily against light-armoured support units. Sustained fire from the guns could damage mobile suits and were often used in close distance combat. They also served as missile defence.

Beam sabers

The Sinanju carried two beam sabers for melee combat. These were docked in recharge racks when not in use. The beam sabers used an I-field to contain Minovsky particles within the shape of a blade. Minovsky particles broke down matter at a molecular level, meaning the beam saber could cut through almost any material.

Beam rifle

The beam rifle was the Sinanju’s primary ranged weapon. It had an initial velocity that was almost double that of previous beam rifle models. The rifle drew its rounds from energy packs (E-packs), clips of charged Minovsky particles. The bazooka attachment could be fitted onto the beam rifle for additional firepower.

Beam axes

The Sinanju was equipped with two beam axes that were stored in the shield. These high-output beam melee weapons could be combined to form a beam naginata for extended reach in close combat. The beam axes provided the Sinanju with devastating close-quarters combat capabilities.

Shield

The mobile suit mounted a shield on its left forearm or shoulder for defence. The shield could store the grenade launcher and beam axes, serving as both protection and a weapon rack.

Grenade launcher

The grenade launcher was stored in the shield and could be mounted on the beam rifle. This provided the Sinanju with area-effect weaponry for engaging multiple targets or destroying fortifications.

Bazooka

The Sinanju could be equipped with a bazooka for heavy assault missions. The bazooka attachment could be fitted onto the beam rifle, creating a powerful combined weapon system.

Propellant tanks

Two external propellant tanks were mounted on the Sinanju’s backpack and were ejectable when empty. These tanks provided extended operational time for long-range missions.

Behind the scenes

Hajime Katoki was the original mechanical designer. The design was based on the MSN-06S Sinanju from the Gundam Unicorn novels.

The Sinanju’s name is derived from a fictional style of martial arts that came from a paperback book series known as The Destroyer. This is likely a reference to the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, which has a “Destroy Mode” within it.

The Sinanju’s model number (MSN-06S) is almost identical to the MS-06S Zaku II Commander Type that Char once piloted, which is a clear play on its pilot Full Frontal being “The Second Coming of Char”. Another gag is that Sinanju is described as moving “at three times the speed” of a Geara Zulu, which is what Char’s MS-06S Zaku II Commander Type is described as compared to a normal Zaku II.
