Alpha A. Bate
Albion crew member during Operation Stardust.
Alpha A Bate (アルファ・A・ベイト, Arufa A Beito) was a communications officer aboard the assault carrier Albion during Operation Stardust. Serving the Earth Federation Forces, he managed shipboard transmissions and mission traffic while the crew hunted the Delaz Fleet throughout UC 0083.
Biography
Alpha A. Bate’s communications post aboard the Albion kept Captain Eiphar Synapse’s pursuit of the Delaz Fleet coordinated throughout Operation Stardust, making him the steady voice that linked Bridge, mobile suit teams, and Federation command.
Deployment to the Albion
Alpha A. Bate joined Albion’s operations department when the assault carrier launched from Torrington Base to field-test the Gundam Development Project. Stationed on the bridge, he routed communications between Captain Eiphar Synapse, the Torrington command tower, and the support teams responsible for the RX-78GP01.
Operation Stardust
After Anavel Gato stole the RX-78GP02A Physalis, Bate oversaw long-range communications while Albion pursued the hijacked mobile suit across Earth and into space. He relayed operational updates to pilots Ko Uraki and Chuck Keith, coordinated with South Burning on damage reports, and handled the contentious signals traffic with Luna II authorities who challenged Synapse’s pursuit orders.
Bate remained on duty through the Naval Review debacle at Konpei Island and the final scramble to halt the falling colony. He transmitted Synapse’s warnings to Earth Federation command and kept the crew informed as Albion fought alongside the Federation pursuit squadrons struggling to break the Delaz Fleet’s defensive screen.
Physical appearance
While serving aboard Albion, Bate presented as a middle-aged officer with short, neatly kept dark hair and a trimmed moustache. He wore the carrier’s mustard-toned bridge uniform with a white duty cap and typically kept a communications headset in place while monitoring the ship’s channels.
Personality & traits
During Operation Stardust, Bate remained methodical and even-tempered, providing a steady voice on the bridge during tense engagements. He followed naval procedure closely yet backed Captain Synapse whenever bureaucracy threatened to delay the pursuit of the Delaz Fleet. His calm delivery helped reassure junior crew who relied on the bridge announcements for situational awareness.
Skills & abilities
Within the Earth Federation Forces, Bate specialised in fleet communications and tactical coordination. He juggled encrypted long-range transmissions, internal ship announcements, and mobile suit telemetry without losing clarity. His familiarity with Federation communications protocols allowed the Albion to respond quickly to shifting directives during Operation Stardust.
Relationships
Eiphar Synapse
Eiphar Synapse depended on Bate to keep Albion’s communications links stable while he challenged higher command for the authority to pursue the Physalis. Bate’s precise reporting ensured Synapse’s orders reached every department without confusion.
South Burning
South Burning served as Albion’s tactical officer and relied on Bate’s updates to brief the mobile suit teams. Bate transmitted Burning’s sortie plans and casualty reports, helping the veterans coordinate with the younger pilots drafted into the chase.
Albion pilots
Ko Uraki and Chuck Keith frequently received mission updates and landing instructions from Bate. His steady guidance helped the rookie pilots recover their machines and rearm between sorties despite the hectic tempo of Operation Stardust.
Military career
Bate was a career sailor in the Earth Federation Forces, specialising in carrier operations. His assignment to Albion reflected the Federation’s need for experienced bridge staff who could coordinate prototype mobile suit deployments under combat conditions.
Equipment
Bate operated Albion’s communications console, using its encrypted channels to liaise with Federation command posts and allied task forces. Like other bridge officers, he carried a standard-issue sidearm but relied primarily on his console headset and data tablets to manage his duties.
