ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam
ZAFT prototype piloted by Shinn Asuka; features Voiture Lumiere wings of light and combined Impulse Silhouette technology.
The ZGMF-X42S Destiny Gundam (デスティニーガンダム, Desutinī Gandamu) was a prototype general-purpose mobile suit developed by ZAFT and piloted by Shinn Asuka in the latter part of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. It was developed from the ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam, combining the best aspects of the Impulse’s Force, Sword, and Blast Silhouette packs whilst introducing new technology: the Voiture Lumiere propulsion system, which generated “wings of light” for high-speed movement and scattered Mirage Colloid particles to create afterimages. The Destiny was powered by an ultracompact hyper-deuterion nuclear reactor (with Neutron Jammer Canceller) for near-unlimited operation and was armed with a long-range beam cannon, the MMI-714 “Arondight” anti-ship sword, beam boomerangs that doubled as beam sabres, palm beam cannons, and beam shield generators.
History
Development and deployment
ZAFT developed the Destiny as the flagship unit of its next-generation programme, building on data from the Impulse. Gilbert Durandal assigned it to Shinn Asuka to serve as ZAFT’s symbol of power during the final phase of the Second Alliance-PLANT War. Shinn used it in the climactic battles against the Earth Alliance, Orb, and the forces opposing Durandal’s Destiny Plan.
Design
The Destiny stood 18.08 metres tall and used Variable Phase Shift Armor. Its Voiture Lumiere wings gave it exceptional speed and a distinctive silhouette; the combination of heavy armament and mobility made it one of the most capable units in the Cosmic Era.
