Wootbit Gunhale

Wootbit Gunhale (ウートビット・ガンハル, Ūtobitto Ganharu) was a character in Mobile Suit Gundam AGE and the son of Dique Gunhale, the Federation engineer who supported the AGE System project. Wootbit followed in his father’s footsteps by serving the Earth Federation, though he chose the path of a mobile suit pilot rather than an engineer.

Biography

Growing up in wartime

Wootbit grew up during the ongoing war between the Earth Federation and Vagan. His father Dique worked as an engineer at the Federation’s mobile suit development facility, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of the Gundam mobile suits. This environment — surrounded by technology, engineering, and the ever-present threat of Vagan — shaped Wootbit’s worldview from an early age.

Unlike his father, who worked behind the scenes to support the war effort, Wootbit chose to serve on the front lines as a mobile suit pilot. This decision reflected both his desire to contribute directly to the fight against Vagan and his own ambitions to prove himself as a combatant.

Military service

Wootbit enlisted in the Earth Federation military and trained as a mobile suit pilot. His technical background — inherited from his father’s engineering expertise — gave him an advantage in understanding the mechanical systems of his mobile suit. This knowledge allowed him to push his machine to its limits and to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in the field.

He served alongside other Federation pilots during the later stages of the war, participating in operations against Vagan forces. His contributions to the Federation’s military efforts continued the Gunhale family’s legacy of service.

Relationship with Dique

The relationship between Wootbit and his father Dique was shaped by the war and their different approaches to serving the Federation. Dique, as an engineer, understood the dangers of mobile suit combat all too well. He had seen the damage that Vagan weapons could inflict on Federation machines and had worked to repair and improve them.

Wootbit’s decision to become a pilot rather than an engineer may have caused some tension between father and son. Dique would have known the risks that his son faced, and Wootbit’s desire to serve on the front lines may have been difficult for his father to accept.

Personality & traits

Wootbit was determined, technically skilled, and driven by a sense of duty. He inherited his father’s engineering aptitude but applied it in a different direction — to the operation of mobile suits rather than their design and maintenance.
