PMX-002 Bolinoak-Sammahn
Prototype reconnaissance mobile suit developed by Paptimus Scirocco for the Titans.
The PMX-002 Bolinoak-Sammahn was a prototype reconnaissance mobile suit developed by Paptimus Scirocco aboard the transport ship Jupitris during the Gryps Conflict.
The “P” in the model code stood for Paptimus (Scirocco), “M” for mobile suit/mobile armor, and “X” indicated that it was an experimental unit. The “002” denoted it was the third of Scirocco’s handmade mobile weapons, despite the numbering sequence.
The third mobile suit built by Paptimus Scirocco aboard the Jupitris, the PMX-002 Bolinoak-Sammahn was a mobile suit designed as a seek-and-destroy unit. It was equipped with advanced surveillance technology built into its head and forearms, but because of this, it had limited armaments compared to its sister units.
History
The third custom mobile suit designed and built by Paptimus Scirocco aboard the transport ship Jupitris during the Gryps War, the PMX-002 Bolinoak-Sammahn was designed as a search-and-destroy unit. Although rather limited in its armament of 2 beam guns/beam sabers and a set of rocket launchers, it was equipped with a sophisticated surveillance system radome in its head and other specialised sensors in its forearms, making it more suited to a scouting/reconnaissance role.
Only one Bolinoak-Sammahn was constructed, and it was assigned to young Scirocco loyalist Sarah Zabiarov in the last days of the war. The Bolinoak-Sammahn was fielded in the last days of the Gryps Conflict, piloted by Sarah Zabiarov. Sarah used the suit in the battle at the Gate of Zedan and the battles against Axis, during which the Bolinoak-Sammahn was damaged by Haman Karn’s AMX-004 Qubeley.
The Bolinoak-Sammahn was destroyed when Katz Kobayashi tried to kill Scirocco only for Sarah to take the blast, killing her in the process. The mobile suit was destroyed before the war’s conclusion.
Design
The Bolinoak-Sammahn was designed with reconnaissance and electronic warfare capabilities as its primary focus. Made out of Gundarium alloy, the mobile suit was heavily layered and thick, its chassis—especially in the chest and shoulders—providing the unit with great defence against a wide variety of attacks.
The mobile suit had an ultracompact Minovsky fusion reactor generating an output of 1,720 kW. It was outfitted with three main rocket thrusters producing 20,040 kg of thrust each and eighteen vernier thrusters for precise manoeuvring, allowing for a maximum thruster acceleration of 1.07 Gs.
The cockpit was a standard panoramic monitor system with a linear seat located in the torso. The mobile suit’s sensors had a detection range of 11,040 metres, enhanced by its specialised surveillance equipment.
Armaments
The only fixed armament of the suit were two 3-tube rocket launchers, which were mounted in the shoulders of the Bolinoak-Sammahn. Additional weaponry consisted of a single shield, which mounts beam sabers/beam tomahawk/beam guns and a pincer/grappling unit.
3-tube rocket launchers
Mounted in the shoulders of the Bolinoak-Sammahn are a pair of 3-tube rocket launchers. These provided the mobile suit’s primary offensive capability, offering both anti-mobile suit and anti-ship firepower at medium to long range.
Shield
For defense, the Bolinoak-Sammahn mounted a shield on its right arm. The shield included multiple weapon systems integrated into its design, making it both a defensive and offensive tool.
Beam sabers/beam tomahawks
The shield included two beam sabers, power rated at 0.42 MW each, which also served as beam tomahawks when hand carried. These weapons provided the mobile suit with close combat capabilities despite its reconnaissance focus.
Beam guns
The beam sabers doubled as beam guns that were power rated at 0.53MW while stored in the front part of the shield. This dual functionality maximised the mobile suit’s limited weapon capacity.
Pincer/grappling unit
The shield mounted a 2-finger pincer/grappling unit at the front part. This versatile tool could be used for manipulation tasks, capturing enemy units, or for mobility in zero-gravity environments.
Surveillance system radome
A surveillance system was mounted in the Bolinoak-Sammahn’s head unit. This sophisticated system was the mobile suit’s primary advantage, providing advanced reconnaissance capabilities that made it invaluable for intelligence gathering operations.
Surveillance sensor systems
A pair of sensors were mounted in the Bolinoak-Sammahn’s forearms. These specialised sensors enhanced the mobile suit’s reconnaissance capabilities and worked in conjunction with the head-mounted surveillance system to provide comprehensive battlefield awareness.

Variants
In UC 116, a modified Bolinoak-Sammahn was used to steal data from SNRI headquarters during a terrorist attack in Side 4 Frontier 1 colony. This unit was piloted by Fonse Kagatie and escorted by Cypher in his MSA-120 Draig. Featured in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam F90: Fastest Formula, this modified variant had excellent electronic warfare capability. It could hack and steal data from enemy databanks via cables launched from its hands and process these data rapidly in real time.
Behind the scenes
The mechanical design for the Bolinoak-Sammahn was created by the design team working on Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, with Kazumi Fujita responsible for the final design cleanup. Nagano Mamoru and other staff members also contributed to the overall PMX series design philosophy.
The Bolinoak-Sammahn was likely named after the Japanese children’s song Mori no Kuma-san (“Mr Bear of the Forest”), the Japanese version of the American camp song “The Other Day I Met a Bear”. During the design phase, its name was “Molinoak Samahn” (モリノーク・サマーン), making it even closer to the song title.
