Louise Halevy

Louise Halevy (ルイス・ハレヴィ, Ruisu Harevi) was a civilian character in Mobile Suit Gundam 00 who lost her family during Celestial Being’s armed interventions. Her experiences with loss and trauma led her to join the A-LAWS organisation, where she became a mobile suit pilot and opposed Celestial Being’s activities.

Biography

Early life

Louise lived in one of the orbital elevators with her family, leading a normal civilian life as a student. She had a boyfriend, Saji Crossroad, and enjoyed a peaceful existence before Celestial Being began its armed interventions.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Louise’s life was devastated when the orbital elevator where she lived was attacked during Celestial Being’s armed interventions. Her entire family was killed in the attack, leaving her alone and traumatised. This loss had a profound impact on Louise, creating deep resentment towards Celestial Being and the conflict that had destroyed her life.

Louise’s relationship with Saji was strained by their shared trauma and loss. Both had lost loved ones in the conflict, but they responded differently, with Louise becoming consumed by her desire for revenge against Celestial Being.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season

In the second season, Louise joined the A-LAWS organisation, a military force that opposed Celestial Being. Her motivation was driven by her loss and her desire to ensure that others would not suffer as she had. Louise became a mobile suit pilot, using her skills to fight against Celestial Being.

Louise’s involvement with the A-LAWS placed her in opposition to Saji, who had become involved with Celestial Being. Their conflicting allegiances created tension between them, though they remained connected by their shared experiences and their history together.

Personality

Louise was initially characterised by her cheerful and optimistic personality, enjoying a normal civilian life. However, the loss of her family transformed her, creating deep trauma and a desire for revenge. Her personality became darker and more driven by her experiences with loss.

Louise’s growth throughout the series reflected the series’ exploration of how ordinary people are affected by war and how trauma can shape individuals. Her eventual path towards healing and reconciliation demonstrated the possibility of recovery from trauma.

Skills & abilities

As a civilian, Louise initially had no combat skills or piloting experience. However, after joining the A-LAWS and receiving training, she became a competent mobile suit pilot. Her piloting abilities reflected her determination and her motivation to fight against what she perceived as the source of her suffering.

Relationships

Saji Crossroad

Louise’s relationship with Saji was central to her character arc. The two were in a romantic relationship before the conflict began, but their lives were torn apart by war. Their shared loss created distance between them, and their eventual involvement with opposing sides further complicated their relationship.

Family

Louise’s family was killed during the conflict, and their loss had a profound impact on her. Her family’s death motivated her to join the A-LAWS and to fight against Celestial Being, though her motivations evolved as she gained perspective on the conflict.
