Biography
Early life
Ribbons was created as an Innovator, an artificially created being designed to guide humanity’s evolution. Like other Innovators, Ribbons possessed advanced cognitive abilities and physical capabilities that exceeded those of normal humans. He was part of Celestial Being’s original plan, though he eventually betrayed the organisation to pursue his own agenda.
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season
Ribbons emerged as the leader of the Innovators in the second season, operating behind the scenes to manipulate world events according to his vision. He controlled the A-LAWS organisation and worked to eliminate Celestial Being, viewing the organisation as a threat to his plans for humanity’s future.
Ribbons’ philosophy centred on the belief that Innovators were superior to normal humans and that they should guide humanity’s evolution. This perspective led him to view normal humans as inferior beings who needed to be controlled and directed, creating conflict with Celestial Being’s ideals of human autonomy and self-determination.
Throughout the second season, Ribbons engaged in a psychological and physical battle with Setsuna F. Seiei, viewing Setsuna as a potential threat to his plans. Their conflict represented the larger struggle between different visions for humanity’s future, with Ribbons advocating for controlled evolution under Innovator guidance.
Personality
Ribbons was characterised by his arrogance and sense of superiority over normal humans. He viewed Innovators as the next stage of human evolution and believed that they were entitled to guide and control humanity’s development. This perspective made him dismissive of normal humans’ autonomy and rights.
Ribbons’ personality also reflected a deep-seated belief in his own correctness and the righteousness of his cause. He was manipulative and strategic, working behind the scenes to achieve his goals whilst maintaining a calm and collected demeanour. His conviction in his own superiority made him a formidable opponent who was difficult to reason with or negotiate.
Skills & abilities
As an Innovator, Ribbons possessed advanced cognitive abilities that allowed him to process information and plan strategies with exceptional effectiveness. His physical capabilities also exceeded those of normal humans, making him a capable combatant despite not being primarily a pilot.
Ribbons demonstrated exceptional strategic and tactical abilities, successfully manipulating world events and organisations to achieve his goals. His ability to control and direct the A-LAWS and other factions demonstrated his effectiveness as a leader and manipulator.
Relationships
Setsuna F. Seiei
Ribbons’ relationship with Setsuna was central to his character arc. The two represented opposing visions for humanity’s future, with Ribbons advocating for controlled evolution under Innovator guidance and Setsuna working to ensure human autonomy. Their conflict drove much of the second season’s narrative.
Innovators
Ribbons led the Innovators and worked closely with other members of the group to achieve their shared goals. His leadership and vision shaped the Innovators’ actions throughout the second season, though his methods and philosophy sometimes created conflict with other Innovators.
A-LAWS
Ribbons controlled the A-LAWS organisation from behind the scenes, using it as a tool to eliminate threats to his plans and to shape world events according to his vision. His manipulation of the organisation demonstrated his strategic abilities and his willingness to use any means necessary to achieve his goals.
