Behind the scenes

Abdul and the rest of the Maganac specialists were created by head writer Sumizawa Katsuyuki to surround Quatre with a fully fledged desert militia rather than anonymous henchmen. Mechanical designer Okawara Kunio produced individual Maganac variants for the television model sheets, giving each pilot a unique silhouette that Bandai could promote through B-Club resin kits and trading figures. Production notes in Newtype 100% Collection Mobile Suit Gundam Wing highlight Abdul’s sensor-focused loadout, which storyboard artists used to justify reconnaissance cuts during the Gundam Wing episode arc set in the Arabian desert.
