Three Ships Alliance

The Three Ships Alliance (三隻同盟, Sanshiki Dōmei) was a peace coalition formed during the First Alliance-PLANT War in the Cosmic Era timeline. The alliance consisted of three vessels—the Archangel, Eternal, and Kusanagi—that united to oppose the continuing conflict between the Earth Alliance and PLANTs. The alliance’s formation represented a turning point in the war, as forces from both sides came together to seek peace.

History

Formation

The Three Ships Alliance was formed in Cosmic Era 71 during the final stages of the First Alliance-PLANT War. The alliance emerged when the three vessels, each representing different perspectives and allegiances, united to oppose the war and work towards peace. The Archangel, originally an Earth Alliance vessel, the Eternal, commanded by Lacus Clyne, and the Kusanagi, representing the Orb Union, came together despite their different origins.

The alliance’s formation reflected the war’s evolution, as individuals on both sides began to question the conflict and seek alternatives to continued fighting. The vessels’ crews, which included both Coordinators and Naturals, demonstrated that cooperation was possible despite the ideological divisions that had driven the war.

Operations

The Three Ships Alliance engaged in operations designed to end the conflict and prevent further escalation. The alliance intervened in battles between the Earth Alliance and PLANTs forces, working to stop attacks and create opportunities for dialogue. Their actions were based on the belief that the war could be ended through cooperation rather than continued fighting.

The alliance’s most significant operation was their intervention in the final battle of the war, where they worked to prevent the use of nuclear weapons and to create conditions for a ceasefire. Their efforts contributed to the war’s conclusion, demonstrating that peace was possible when individuals from both sides worked together.

Dissolution

The Three Ships Alliance dissolved following the end of the First Alliance-PLANT War, as the conditions that had necessitated its formation were resolved. However, the cooperation demonstrated by the alliance influenced post-war relations and showed that peace was possible when different factions worked together towards common goals.

Organisation

Command structure

The Three Ships Alliance operated under a cooperative command structure, with each vessel maintaining its own command whilst coordinating operations. Murrue Ramius, captain of the Archangel, Lacus Clyne, commander of the Eternal, and Cagalli Yula Athha, commander of the Kusanagi, worked together to plan and execute operations.

The alliance’s command structure emphasised cooperation and mutual respect, reflecting its members’ commitment to working together despite their different backgrounds and allegiances. This approach allowed the alliance to function effectively despite the challenges of coordinating forces from different origins.

Vessels

The alliance consisted of three primary vessels:

  • Archangel – Earth Alliance mobile suit carrier, commanded by Murrue Ramius
  • Eternal – Vessel commanded by Lacus Clyne, carrying advanced mobile suits
  • Kusanagi – Orb Union vessel, commanded by Cagalli Yula Athha

Each vessel contributed unique capabilities to the alliance, allowing it to operate effectively in various combat situations. The vessels’ combined forces provided the alliance with significant combat power and strategic flexibility.

Philosophy

The Three Ships Alliance was founded on the principle that peace could be achieved through cooperation rather than continued conflict. The alliance’s members believed that the war had gone on too long and that further fighting would only result in more suffering. Their goal was to end the conflict and create conditions for lasting peace.

The alliance’s philosophy emphasised the importance of dialogue and cooperation between different factions, rejecting the idea that conflict was inevitable or necessary. This approach contrasted with the rigid ideologies that had driven the war, offering an alternative vision based on mutual understanding and respect.
