Roux Louka

Roux Louka (ルー・ルカ, Roux Louka) was a skilled mobile suit pilot who served with the Anti-Earth Union Group during the First Neo Zeon War. She was the primary pilot of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam after Judau Ashta transferred to the MSZ-010 ΖΖ Gundam.

Biography

Early life and recruitment

Roux Louka was born on 17 September UC 0070. Unlike many of the younger crew members aboard the Argama, she was a professionally-trained pilot who voluntarily joined the AEUG rather than being recruited under unusual circumstances. Her background and training made her one of the most experienced pilots available to the AEUG during the First Neo Zeon War.

Service with the AEUG

Roux joined the crew of the Argama at Shangri-La in UC 0088, where she initially delivered a Core Fighter and assisted Judau Ashta’s group in dealing with local threats including junk dealers, Zeon forces, and the Titans pilot Yazan Gable.

When Judau transitioned from piloting the Zeta Gundam to the newly-arrived ΖΖ Gundam, Roux became the Zeta’s primary pilot. As a regular soldier who was older than most of the Gundam Team members, her initially patronising attitude towards the younger pilots caused friction, particularly with Judau, Elle Vianno, and Beecha Oleg. However, over the course of the war, she formed strong bonds with all of them.

Romance and manipulation

Roux was known for her confidence in her abilities both as a pilot and as a woman. She was not afraid to use her charm and attractiveness to achieve her objectives, most notably against Neo Zeon pilot Glemy Toto. During one encounter, she successfully feigned romantic interest in Glemy to secure her escape from Neo Zeon custody. This manipulation, whilst effective in the short term, led to Glemy developing an obsessive infatuation with her that would complicate subsequent encounters.

Final battle with Glemy Toto

In the climactic Battle of Axis, Roux faced Glemy Toto in their final confrontation. Despite the complex emotions between them, she killed him by incinerating his mobile suit with the Zeta Gundam’s beam rifle. This decisive action helped bring an end to Glemy’s rebellion within Neo Zeon.

Jupiter Energy Fleet

Following the end of the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0089, Roux left the AEUG alongside Judau Ashta to join the Jupiter Energy Fleet. The two departed for Jupiter aboard the Jupitris II, where they began what appeared to be a romantic relationship.

Personality and traits

Roux was characterised by her confidence and occasional arrogance. She initially viewed many of her younger squadmates as childish and immature, which led to frequent arguments, particularly with Elle Vianno—possibly due to both women harbouring romantic feelings for Judau.

One of her most notable abilities was her talent for flirtation and acting. She could convincingly feign feelings towards enemies and strangers to achieve her objectives. This skill proved particularly effective against Glemy Toto, though it also earned her his unwanted romantic obsession.

Despite her sometimes difficult personality, Roux developed genuine care for her teammates over time. Her relationship with Judau evolved from initial friction to what appeared to be romantic attachment by the war’s end.

Piloting expertise

Roux was the only professionally-trained pilot among the Argama’s crew during the First Neo Zeon War. Her skill level was sufficiently high that she could effectively pilot advanced mobile suits including the Zeta Gundam, which typically required exceptional piloting ability. She was also capable of operating the ΖΖ Gundam when necessary.

Newtype abilities

Roux possessed Newtype abilities, though these were not as prominently featured as those of pilots like Judau Ashta or Kamille Bidan. Her abilities included enhanced spatial awareness and the capacity to sense other Newtypes, such as Char Aznable.

Relationships

Judau Ashta

The exact nature of Roux’s relationship with Judau Ashta remained one of the most ambiguous aspects of their story. Whilst both grew close during the First Neo Zeon War, there were no explicit romantic moments between them. However, their decision to leave together for Jupiter strongly suggested a deep bond. The relationship was further complicated by Elle Vianno’s own feelings for Judau, which created tension between the two women.

Glemy Toto

Roux’s relationship with Neo Zeon pilot Glemy Toto was complex and ultimately tragic. What began as tactical manipulation on her part—using flirtation to secure her escape—evolved into genuine mixed feelings. Despite Glemy’s obsessive devotion to her, Roux never reciprocated his romantic feelings, ultimately killing him in their final battle.

Elle Vianno

Roux frequently clashed with fellow pilot Elle Vianno, with their arguments often stemming from their competing romantic interests in Judau. Despite this rivalry, both women eventually developed mutual respect as members of the Gundam Team.

Mecha

MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam

Roux’s primary mobile suit during the First Neo Zeon War was the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam. She inherited this advanced transformable mobile suit from Judau Ashta when he transferred to the ΖΖ Gundam. The Zeta proved well-suited to her piloting style, particularly its Wave Rider mode, which she used effectively in atmospheric and space combat. Her most notable achievement with the Zeta was defeating Glemy Toto in their final confrontation.

Other mobile weapons

Throughout her service, Roux also piloted several other mobile weapons including the FF-X7 Core Fighter and FXA-07GB Neo Core Fighter. She was capable of operating the MSZ-010 ΖΖ Gundam and RX-178 Gundam Mk-II when circumstances required, demonstrating her versatility as a pilot.

Behind the scenes

Roux Louka was designed as a more mature female pilot to contrast with the younger characters in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. Her character served as both a mentor figure and romantic rival within the series’ ensemble cast.

Voice actors

Roux was voiced by Naoko Matsui in the original Japanese version of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. Matsui, born on 4 April 1961 in Hakodate, Hokkaido, was known for voicing strong female characters and would later voice Dorothy Catalonia in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

In the English dub of the television series, she was voiced by Andrea Kwan. For the Dynasty Warriors Gundam video game series, Kelly Sheridan provided her English voice.
