Beecha Oleg
Junk dealer turned mobile suit pilot from Shangri-La who served as captain of the Nahel Argama during the First Neo Zeon War.
Beecha Oleg was a junk dealer from the Shangri-La colony who became a mobile suit pilot for the AEUG during the First Neo Zeon War. Initially self-centred and troublesome, he matured during the conflict and ultimately served as acting captain of the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama.
Biography
Early life
Beecha Oleg grew up as a citizen of the Side 1 space colony Shangri-La, where he made a living as a junk dealer alongside his close friends Judau Ashta, Mondo Agake, Iino Abbav, and Elle Vianno. The group formed a tight-knit clique that supported each other through difficult times, often skipping school to focus on their salvage work.
Although he pretended to be the leader of their junk-dealing group, Beecha was initially small-minded and self-centred. His friends, particularly Judau and Elle, would often put him in his place during crucial moments when his arrogance got the better of him.
First Neo Zeon War
In September UC 0088, Beecha’s life changed dramatically when the Argama docked at Shangri-La for repairs following the Gryps Conflict. After his group discovered Yazan Gable in an escape pod, they became involved in attempts to steal the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam from the ship. Through a series of events, instead of successfully stealing the mobile suit, Beecha and his friends ended up helping the Argama’s crew and eventually joined the AEUG as members of what became known as the “Gundam Team”.
AEUG service
Initially, Beecha had little faith in the AEUG and harboured resentment about military life. His unhappiness with serving under Bright Noa’s command and his rivalry with Judau led him to make several questionable decisions. Most notably, he and Mondo plotted to sell the Argama to Axis, putting their comrades in grave danger.
Eventually, both Beecha and Mondo defected to the Neo Zeon forces, believing they would find better treatment there. However, their time aboard the Endra under Gottn Goh proved disillusioning. The two were subjected to abuse, given menial jobs, and constantly ridiculed by the crew. This harsh treatment made them realise they had been happier serving with their friends on the Argama.
Return to the AEUG
After escaping from the Endra—though failing to rescue Leina Ashta as they had hoped—Beecha and Mondo rejoined the Argama crew. Despite initial suspicion from their former comrades, Beecha proved his renewed loyalty by becoming a capable mobile suit pilot. He primarily piloted the repaired MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki, though he occasionally operated higher-end machines such as the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam and MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam, though he found these advanced suits difficult to handle effectively.
Command of the Nahel Argama
As the conflict progressed, Beecha demonstrated significant personal growth, shedding his childish ways and developing genuine leadership qualities. When the crew transferred to the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama, Bright Noa entrusted command of the ship to Beecha while he was stationed at La Vie en Rose. This appointment was intended as training for Beecha to eventually succeed Bright as the ship’s permanent captain.
During his tenure as acting captain, Beecha finally found the courage to express his long-held affection for Elle Vianno, and she reciprocated his feelings.
Post-war life
After the war’s end, Beecha returned to civilian life and was present at Von Braun City on the Moon to see off Judau and Roux Louka as they departed for the Jupiter sphere.
Personality & traits
Beecha initially presented himself as an arrogant leader figure, though he was often shown to be small-minded and self-centred. His early behaviour included troublemaking schemes and putting his friends in danger for personal gain. However, this exterior masked someone who was fundamentally a good friend and loyal companion.
Through his experiences during the war, Beecha underwent significant character development. He evolved from a selfish teenager into someone capable of genuine leadership and self-sacrifice. His growth was particularly evident in his willingness to take on the responsibility of commanding the Nahel Argama and his eventual ability to form a mature romantic relationship with Elle.
Skills & abilities
Although Beecha began as an amateur mobile suit pilot, he quickly acquired competent piloting skills during his brief defection to Neo Zeon, where he trained alongside Mondo. However, he never reached ace-level proficiency and struggled with high-performance machines like the Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam, which required more skill than he possessed.
His true talents lay in leadership and negotiation. Like his friend Mondo, Beecha was considered crafty and quick-witted, often able to turn difficult situations to his advantage through clever reasoning and discussion.
Relationships
Elle Vianno
Beecha harboured romantic feelings for Elle Vianno for an extended period, though he initially lacked the courage to express them. Elle was one of the few people who could engage him in meaningful conversation on a regular basis. During his time as acting captain of the Nahel Argama, Beecha finally confessed his feelings, and Elle reciprocated, having come to recognise him as the most compatible match among their group of friends.
Judau Ashta
Beecha’s relationship with Judau Ashta was complex, marked by both friendship and rivalry. While they had been close friends since their junk-dealing days, Beecha often resented Judau’s natural leadership abilities and piloting skills. This rivalry contributed to his temporary defection to Neo Zeon, though their friendship ultimately endured.
Mondo Agake
Mondo Agake served as Beecha’s closest partner and frequent accomplice in various schemes. Mondo looked up to Beecha as a leader figure and willingly followed him into their ill-fated defection to Neo Zeon. The two shared similar personalities and often worked together in their junk-dealing business and later military service.
Mecha
MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki
After returning to the AEUG from his brief defection, Beecha became the primary pilot of the repaired MSN-00100 Hyaku Shiki. Originally piloted by Quattro Bajeena (Char Aznable), the golden mobile suit became Beecha’s signature machine for the remainder of the war. Despite its age and the fact that it lacked beam coating, Beecha piloted it competently in numerous engagements.
Other mobile suits
Beecha occasionally piloted other advanced mobile suits, including the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam and MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam, though he found their sophisticated systems challenging to master. His attempts to operate these high-performance machines often resulted in suboptimal performance compared to more skilled pilots like Judau.
Behind the scenes
Beecha Oleg was voiced by Shingo Hiromori in the original Japanese version of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. In English language adaptations, he was voiced by Russell Wait in the Animax television dub and Jordan Schartner in the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam video game series.
The character served as an example of personal growth and redemption within the series, showing how even initially unlikeable characters could develop into heroes through their experiences and relationships with others.
